Thanks very much for them fanoftv. I wonder why they shortened the 2001 titles. It looks more professional with proper length titles to be honest.
I think it was because there was nothing to the titles. If you look at the 1998 and 1999 titles, they are full of action, where as the 2001 titles were basically flying dots. It speeds along the titles and gives them those few extra seconds within the show.
I've been watching all of these cd:uk's back, and it's amazing to see the transformation, even from 2001 to now, but especially the two from 1999 (98 & 99 titles), when they contained the rundown throughout the show in three sections, had the competition where the guests brought in prizes and seemed to have more live guests, even if most of them were the pop acts from SM:tv!
I especially loved the 1998 one that I watched that was really based on the chart, with the numbers, the chart information desk, the heat seakers (looking at a US hit that will become big in the UK soon), and a good mix of live music and videos with guest chats and in the first 2 shows they actually had a live OB to a record store across the country to see what people were buying, though this was dropped by show 3.
I like the attitude when it started of only theviewers can change the chart from their point on Saturday until Sunday by buying the music!
I agree, the 98 titles (the first one) just don't work, because I think the "wow, wow, cd uk k" theme is a main part of it now, and I think the '99 titles (the second one) are the best.
The first titles also feature the guy saying 'CountDown UK'. I remember they used to use that jingle after every song but it was changed to 'CD:UK, CD:UK K' after a short time.
Maybe they could combine all the titles together with some new bits and the original theme for the relaunch! Or they could do something similar to the 99 titles with the flying clips and judging by the website,they'll be circles with a white background.

I like that idea. Hopefully the website won't change again with the relaunch, and hopefully they'll tie in the designs of the two, as the last website did.
