The loss of the regional bulletins is definitely hurting BBC Breakfast. 1.3m is low for it, no doubt about it. Last week, it was averaging 1.4m. It's on a downward trajectory.

No it's not.

Another very high figure for Good Morning Britain yesterday according to Piers Morgan - peaking at close to 2m, which is usually what BBC Breakfast peaks at.

Does anyone know what BBC Breakfast / BBC News at 9am got? Breakfast's top spot is really being challenged these days. Notably, people like Dan Walker are keeping quiet on Twitter, when he usually responds to Piers Morgan.

Not sure of peaks, but...

0600-0900
GMB: total 0.8m, 24.0% share
Breakfast: total 1.3m, 37.8% share

0900-1000
GMB with Lorraine: total 1.5m, 24.3% share
BBC News: total 2.0m, 32.7% share

GMB traditionally gets half of what Breakfast does, so its certainly a smaller gap

I imagine both fluctuate on a day to day basis.

Fewer people have to get up for work at the moment. It's as surprising as the annual newspaper headlines about the Radio 1 breakfast show figures dropping in the quarter that includes school/uni holidays

I wouldn't be surprised if many of GMB's gains are from people who would normally listen to the likes of LBC or Talk Radio.

Over the last few weeks I have started watching GMB. At least Piers Morgan asks awkward questions to the politicians he's interviewing. Like why are the NHS running low on PPE and why are we not testing more key workers.

He asks great questions. It’d be nice if he allowed people to answer them.

I think this is exactly right. I doubt many of Good Morning Britain's new viewers are coming from Breakfast, they're likely to be coming from people who don't usually watch breakfast TV but are tuning in now there's a major story.

A long way off but god if GMB ever did topple Breakfast in the ratings Piers Morgan would be as unbearable as, well, Piers Morgan. Laughing

I was a regular BBC Breakfast viewer but since being furloughed a month ago, I don't think I've had it on more than 3 or 4 times. Generally because I'm not getting up as early. However when I'm back at work, whenever that is, I'll be watching again. I'm sure there's plenty of others in the same situation.
