Geez! Deborah MacKenzie in N8 for BBC World, handing soon to Peter Dobbie at Stratford. Haven't seen Deborah for yonks!

She is the Relief Presenter for the Relief Presenter's Relief Presenter.

Oh, that's a reflief! I thought it was Willcox in a Wig at first.

The last time I saw Deborah was during the Riots last year and when Andy Moore got punched, she said that famous line 'Andy, Andy, we'll leave it there!'.

Fiona Armstrong on the late shift tonight. And with Fiona Bruce doing the Ten, it was Fiona handing over to Fiona just then on the News Channel!! LOL.

(I'll get my coat...)

And I don't think she quite got the bit where you talk about the newspapers with the Ten presenter - she started reading the headlines off paper (they weren't on the autocue as she wasn't supposed to read them yet!) and after reading two headlines, she said 'More news later, first the weather!'

But, I do quite like Fiona Armstrong as a presenter - she's got the authority and warmth that a lot of presenters lack and keeps up with the pace of the News Channel well. Certainly a very good case for the 'older female presenter'.

EDIT: and she's rather good at the newspaper review, she manages to match the banter and interest level that Chris Eakin has - makes it much nicer (and even entertaining!) to watch.

Likewise with Nicholas Owen, one of the 'older male presenters'. Smile

I don't even get the bit where you talk about the newspapers with the Ten presenter?!? ...whats the point?

I have a soft spot for Chris Eakin's awkwardness, but it always results in his paper reviews being excellent.

It is very dependent on the chemistry these presenters have with the people who have come in to do the review with them, but having a presenter that is up for the banter usually leads to an interesting five minutes.

Still they are not as dynamic as the Paper Review on SkyNews, which comes as sort of a disappointment.

If dynamic means "with two reviewers and an iPad", I'll pass.

Haha, yes well... I'm not sure I mean dynamic if that's your definition... Sky News's paper reviews always seem a lot more lively and they do have a proper discussion about the stories on every edition, wheras the BBC's paper reviews seem half baked and are inconsistent depending on who is the presenter and whether they have a good rapport with their guest.

I do agree that an iPad or for that matter two reviewers are not necessary, but the way Sky do it just seems more "fun" and "inciteful" than the way the stuffy BBC Nyooz Chanul do it.

I'm not biased towards Sky, I think a lot of what they do is over the top and shouty, but their paper review is just right.

Chris Rogers and Carole Walker should never present together again.

When Chris was joking with Maryam about going to Disney World together Carole just looked serious and vacant.
Afterwards when there was a technical issue, Chris and Maryam joked with each other again, Chris saying he knocked a wire out by accident. Carole on the left looking rather out of place.

I think that Carole is better when she's presenting on her own when she can be her serious self. She just doesn't have much personality.

Matt Gooderick's last BBC shift will be on the overnight 15th/16th Newsday and 5am bulletin. Sad to see him going.

I do hope you mean "insightful" and are not insinuating Sky News incite anything.

If I'm flicking past and I see the paper review is on, I sometimes give it a watch. It does go on for longer (I think) so it can be more in-depth. I generally prefer the more experienced (i.e. older) guests that the News Channel tend to have. Chris Eakin does seem to be better, but he always seems to know every guest that's on - probably because he's been doing it for quite a while now.
