large screens to the left/right of presenters (February 2004)

can anyone tell me how the large screens to the left and right (and behind sports) work. are they projected, or are tehy using the same technology that made 'The Word' so great (blue/green screens, then image overlaid??

i need to know!!

I belive they are rear projected.

it doesnt look as though there is room for a projector behind the screen. also no leakage around the side...

They are projection screens with DLP projectors.

There is, they're projected from high up so people walking past don't affect the picture, and on certain very wide shots you can see the projector shining through the set.

thank you for that. i can sleep easily now. i thought it must have been projection, just couldnt see it..

now, can i complain about news 24's new countdoen graphics? i hate the time lapse images!!!#

love the music though. kazaa did be proud when i found it

on the countdown to the o'clock news, the images are all seeped up. i dont like them. also, the globe with the 24 in it and a summary of the main news around it. dont like that either.

they never asked me, you see.

This proves that the see-through effect on the screens that we see on Weekend 24 are not in fact real - just made up images that are projected just as any other image. If they really did turn the images off, we would just have a view to the other side of the glass walls of the set (and the projectors), and the red stripe certainly wouldn't continue down the back of the screen, otherwise the projection wouldn't work.

However, they are most likely "holo-screens" for the projection to be seen from the opposite side that it is projected from.
