Just found this picture of BH - looks like half the roof, and some of the floors, is missing!

Anyone got any more pictures or news of the redevelopment?

The redevelopment includes the demolition of the whole of the BH Extention (BHX) from the 60s. That's what the pic is showing ...

What that picture actually shows is the eastern roof of the original BH, which has been removed. It's already been replaced by a steel framework, which is currently being clad with glass, to take the building up to the eighth floor. The Old BH should be ready in the spring of next year.

They can't knock down the extension until all the people who work there have got somewhere to move to. The only bit of it that's gone so far is where it linked to the old BH.

So the old sloping roof will be a sloping glass area? Cool!

Any more info gratefully received!

Well no, it's not sloping. It's like a glass wall. It's a bit difficult to explain, partly because I'm already having trouble remembering what it was like before, and partly because the glass was only half there when I saw it the other day.

If you ever get the chance to go up to the BH canteen, there's a fantastic view of this part of the work on the old BH, because it's at the same level. Actually, the view of the new BH is becoming more interesting too, now. Where there's been just a huge hole in the ground for months, a building is now emerging. Apparently, the lower floors are pretty much complete.

It was a very steep sloping roof originally, about 3 or 4 stories high. It was originally built to give those living opposite some light.

When I went past it the other day the part of the building where Egton House (Radio 1) used to be was a couple of floors high. Structurally complete, but a lot more work to be done

That's what I meant. They do tend to build the whole strusture before moving the furniture in.

I was thinking more of the cladding and walls, rather than furniture!

Having been inspired by this thread to search for pictures of BH, I came across this:

Can someone explain some things about this picture which I have colour coded:

http://www.rp-networkservices.com/tvforum/uploads/bh.jpg

I presume this is the case: the red bit is the original BH, currently being gutted and renovated; the blue bit is the BH extension, which is next on the list for renovation (or is it being knocked down?); the green bit is where Radio 1 used to be and has been knocked down? The new BH will be where the green bit is.

Am I close?

You can also see the sloping roof on the original (red) BH building. This has been removed so is it being replaced with vertical glass?

You are fairly close.

The right hand end of the green building has gone - the left hand end, which is a much older building, remains.

The sloping roof has indeed gone, and has been replaced by vertical glass.

The new BH will cover the area of the blue building too, and will wrap right round. I think the vertical glass where the old BH sloping roof used to be will make the old and new buildings appear to interlock.

The uncolured building just to the right of the green one (and below the blue one), is currently being refurbished also, and will become home to Radio 2, 6 Music, etc. Radio Four and I suspect Radio Three, will move into the old BH when the work is complete, so that the blue extension can be demolished.

Have a lookhere to see how it will look, especially the way it wraps round.
