one small point, there original reason for changing the names was to avoid poor joe public getting all dizzy and confused ... so i suggest people write in all dizzy and confuzed about the current situation - IMO it would be more influential, and would destroy their reasoning for keeping the current sittuation.

The 'people will get confused with having Central and Westcountry and Carlton, better to have Carlton, Carlton and Carlton even though all 3 Carlton's are different channels' explanation was the STORY to explain the rebrand (as I said on the new look Sky One thread, I think half the work involved in a rebrand these days is working out why they're going to say it was necessary).

The REAL reason was that Carlton thought that if more of their assets were called Carlton, it would improve the share price of Carlton Communications. That did not work, the guy who did it has since left the company, and that's why HTV wasn't incorporated into the rebranding (OK there may be some truth in there not renaming HTV Wales because it is a national broadcaster story but HTV West is effectively a separate station and could easily have become Carlton West if they wanted it to).

I'd be happy now if they could just make the end of the ident say 'Central' or 'Westcountry' depending on where you live. Or maybe the introduction of idents for regional programming where 'ITV1' is replaced by 'Central', 'Westcountry' or 'London'. That way the station name would still be Carlton, but there'd be regional identity in there now.

Or the CARLTON name on the star idents could be replaced by WESTCOUNTRY OR CENTRAL in the CARLTON font, anyone want to do a mock?

Back to old idents seen in skool, im anxious to borrow some tapes from skool but they never let me so I'm just gonna take the tape coppy the idents bring the tape in the next dayhttp://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I agree about bringing back Central as a title! Never been too sure about Westcountry as it's based in the South West. HTV West is in the West Country region!

Central brought us the likes of Spitting Image, ATV bought us classic hit after classic hit, oh and Crossroads and Carlton has given us Who Wants To Be A Millionaire... one decent programme in 10 years, way to go Carlton!

I was going to start a new thread for this, but seeing as we're talking Central...
If you have Challenge TV, check out Family Fortunes showing at noon and 11pm... for an animated Central endcap! They're showing the FF series that came with the animated Cake 'production' endcap for the last week or so... (although the 6.45pm showing has its credits cropped, grr!)

2 problems with this-

1)Sometimes the clapping of the audience can go over a lot of the endcap, while on some episode it's only say the first second. Tonight at 11 is a good chance to do it as there is not much clapping.

2)The Challenge TV DOG remains throughout. I wish there was a way to digitally remove it frame by frame!

Anyway it's good to see an animated endcap. (BTW the other Family Fortunes episode on Challenge TV atm is from 1996,with Cake endcap on textured black background)

Carlton has given us Who Wants To Be A Millionaire

Hmm fraid not Celador make WWTBAM last time I looked. Carlton have made some good programs but I can't really remember at the moment.

I'd like to see the Central name back, but they won't re-introduce Central totally, although the name back on idents would be good, and besides the cake would be difficult to re-introduce in a world on mono/duo toned logos. Also one of the main points is not just the name on idents but their name after productions, which is the more serious side, but that is unlikely to [ever] return.
