Although it is 4 hours in total. If it wasn't for lockdown this might have been a one-off hour long episode.

I've not watched Coronation Street since I left home (apart from the odd special - the tram crash for example) but I like the sound of those documentaries. I just hope there's a good propertion of Hilda and Ena type clips rather than the usual ITV way of a brief mention of the past and the rest classic clips from last year

I'd guess these will heavily skew to the older demographic given the situation rather than the younger demographic.

Someone who was 20 in 1960 is now 80 though, so it's worth remembering the number of people who actually have 'watched it since it started' continues to dwindle and so they would need to focus on the breadth of the entire 60 years of the show.

Looking at the 8 programmes I've just noticed their only 30 minutes in length - it seems hard to 60 years of weddings justice in 30 minutes.

I assume they are 30 minutes as they will fill one of the empty Corrie slots whilst it is still 3 times a week. Although I agree its hard to do 60 years worth justice in 30 minutes.

I suppose it'll be 25 minutes by the time ads are thrown in as well.

If you want to do a deep dive on the individual events you could cover 5 in that time, a more fleeting look could do 10-13?

This one would obviously need to wait until they can get the over 70s back on set but what do people think to Ken and Rita shacking up together at No 1, kicking Steve and Tracy out and adopting a baby of their own to bring up.

They've both been out of relationships long enough they'd realistically be looking over their shoulder for romance and it's not inconceivable they could find it in each-other, there's certainly a warmth between the two characters and actors.

ITV3 didn't show the special endcap at the end of the 8/12/95 episode, sadly

I’m going to be honest, but I don’t remember the anniversary episode feeling so rushed. It started with Raquel waking up with Des and ended up with Raquel marrying Curly, the flow of the episode didn’t seem right to me. Anyway that aside it was this episode that led to Coronation Street: The Video.

I remember it well at the time. They appeared to cover a week (Monday-Friday) in a 1 hour episode. Its rare that soaps cover more than one day in an episode even in 2020.

Corrie: The Road to Coronation Street (the drama originally for BBC Four) is getting an ITV airing at 19.30 on Sunday 28th June. I know it's already been on ITV3 but think this is the first airing on main ITV.

I remember being surprised it wasn’t on ITV.

Never made sense that Granada made it, then sold it to the BBC instead of airing it themselves.

ITV probably thought there wasn't a big enough audience for a drama about the making of Coronation Street, it did about 0.9m for BBC Four which was very good but lower than similar biopics they had done like The Curse of Steptoe.

It will be the second screening of it on ITV. The first showing was when Tony Warren died a few years ago and it was shown late on a Sunday night.

The BBC commissioned it!

It's not the case that everything ITV Studios does for other channels could have been on ITV. The point of them doing stuff for other channels is to create more revenue streams, they wouldn't do much if all they were offering is stuff ITV turned down.

Yes it was a BBC commission, but it was just funny to me at the time that the biggest TV event of the Corrie 50 celebrations was on the BBC, including a Granada From the North frontcap at the start! ITV did show the very first episode on the main channel.
