Will Disney close all the UK linear kids channels?

Mirroring other international channels (October 2019)

That's pretty interesting they're closing the +1 feed, especially one that's pretty historic back to 2001 (when the channel was originally called Fox Kids).

I guess +1 feeds are just a dying feed in this current age of streaming. The normal Disney XD in the UK will probably continue to be broadcast regardless of the closure but it seems like that channel is on borrowed time. Nearly 24 years since the channel originally launched.

Oh I dunno, +1's are probably fairly lucrative since they improve the audience share, they're cheap to run and the schedules build themselves Smile

They are sort of relatively unique though over here, since in other countries that also timeshift, they do it to match the timezone of the region (like for example in America where the feeds are timeshifted so something goes out at 7pm on the East coast and 7pm on the West Coast), so there is a purpose to them.

Over here they seem to have been done just to boost the audience share, since we're not geographically big enough as a country to stretch over multiple time zones so they look slightly anachronistic.

This might be easier to see than that video . . . the EPG for next Thursday . . .

If Disney do close their linear channels, that’ll make the requirement of CBBC and CBeebies moving up the EPG easier as they can have 607 and 608 from Disney Junior and it’s +1 and any Disney channels left on air (who knows) have 609-615 for themselves.

A channel closure in the middle of the day? Must be a first.

Was just thinking that. Why bother starting the channel up for the new day when it could have just closed at midnight or 6am. Maybe it’s easier for them to do it at midday for some reason?

DIsney have form for doing this, their ABC1 channel closed at midday too, back in 2007.
And XD is 24hrs.

It is rather unusual, as when abc1 closed in the middle of the day, it was at least replaced by Disney Playhouse+.

I don't think anything else from ABC/Disney is using this transponder space after this, unless someone knows any different.

Also the same for YourTV which closed at midday on 27th September last year (which was owned by Disney by the time of closure, along with the other Fox International owned channels).

I did do a screenshot from the Sky+ mobile app, I don't have Sky myself which makes things a bit harder. According to Digiguide, there's Disney XD+1 listings until Saturday 9th May, so I think the decision to close the timeshift service may of been a little bit abrupt, same for YourTV.

I suprised their not closing the +1 versions of Disney Channel & Disney Junior as well.

Why should they?

Disney XD is much more of a minor channel compared to DC and DJ

Disney Junior rates better than XD even before adding the +1 share, in fact it rates better than the main Disney channel.

Anyway XD doesn't rate particularly well on its own over here, I get the impression they don't quite know what they want to do with it.
