I don't know about buildings - but what about the vans.

Border replaced all theirs and they are very recognisable throughout the region. They are the ITV dark blue with ITV NEWS Border on the bonnet and rear, and Lookaround and Border News on the side with the 4 squares. Are other regions ones similar, or not ?

Central News vans still have the the boring CENTRAL NEWS font from two looks ago on it. Well, the one that passed my workplace the other day did. The highlight of my day!

well i'd rather it continued to look as snazzy as it does now, even if it is a few years old - rather than taking on the dull, cheap itv news look

I know HTV West have taken down the Logo from the front of the building and the 3D sign outside is now yellow and blue with ITV West on it

I find all this "corporate image" business slightly amusing when the West section of the ITV "corporate image" website still shows a picture of the building with the old HTV sign outside.

You'd think somebody would introduce the left hand to the right hand, wouldn't you?

I remember a HTV West newsreader saying "Don't forget to join us for the late news here on HTV, I mean, ITV, oh well you know what I mean!" which kind of sums things up really! I don't recall anyone calling the station ITV West as yet, as far as us gentle folk in the West Country (the real West Country that is) it's still HTV West.

I believe the correct spelling of that expression of agreement should be:

Here! Here!

Come to think of it...

With either spelling, I fail to see how that expression can mean agreement Confused

Does anyone know the phrase's origins?

It doesn't mean agreement in itself -- it's calling upon your audience to hear the person who is speaking or who has just spoken. As in Parliament etc.

'Here Here' would be you fetching the dog.

I'm unfamiliar with the etymology of the idiom, but the dictionary definition is, "said to strongly agree with what someone else has just said" .

Well it's certainly the most common implication nowadays. But etymologically, in the context of a political setting, you could be calling upon your audience to listen up and hear what someone is saying because it is factual/truthful or particularly valid -- yet necessarily it needn't be an opinion, so agreement isn't relevant.

You could of course be saying 'year year' or 'ear ear' -- they all sound the same in a Welsh accent.

Shouldn't this be in the Etymology forum?
