ITV1 Regional Logos

It's just getting a little bit confusing now (July 2004)

Hello there Smile

I'm getting slightly confused with the state of ITV now. They're currently axing logos, and replacing them with the new "ITV [region name here]" logos, however, the old "ITV1 [region name here]", introduced on 28 October (2002) are being used on idents. BUT - in the GMG regions, the regional logos are still being used on the endcaps... for example

HTV: This is their new logo, but they are still using this, however, what about this one that appeared on the regional section of the ITV website?

...and Granada - this is their new logo also, yet they are using this version for regional idents, but this still exists for networked programmes - but the GR/N/D/ logo may be replacing the G-arrow, and it is used for video releases, but what about this new one?

A tad confusing, hmm?

I agree Nicky - very confusing.

I assume there are some politics behind the various idents, ie. 'ITV1 Granada' used in idents may indicate 'This is Granada TV on the ITV1 network'; 'ITV Granada' on an endcap may mean 'Produced by Granada TV, part of ITV Plc'; and the old G logo on videos may mean it's made by Granada (which in theory still exists, particularly as a production company). Where have you seen the 'new' G logo used?

I may be totally wrong here - they are only my initial thoughts.

Kind of on-topic, I was interested to see that the 'Soaps that changed the World' show on Channel 4 recently was made by Yorkshire TV, but the copyright caption said '(c) Channel 4 2004'. How does that work?

Maybe why it said (C) Channel 4 2004 was probably because they broadcasted it or made edits or something like that. I saw the new G logo on a Granada trailer on one of my videos, and on the ITN Archive website.

It may be true that all these logos represent something or other, but I think that too much logos will just get too much of a confusion, couldn't they have something like the ITV1 logo combined with a regional logo, it'd be a lot simpler - but then again, the GR/N/D/ logo symbolises media releases (e.g. DVD/video/music)

It's a classic example of what happens in a federal structure. Different logos used by different departments of different companies in different situations, usually without each other knowing who's doing what. Franchises, production companies and corporates all going in different directions!

As for HTV: "dithering".

All programmes made for Channel 4 carry the copyright notice "© Channel 4 Television Corporation MMIV" regardless.

When did that change DAS? I remember programmes made by the ITV companies used to be listed as copyrighted to the production station (Countdown to YTV, etc).

They're still very much in a transitionary period though and it's a large company. It takes a while for change to filter through.

In some cases the programmes or credit sequences would have been made a long time ago and have just haven't been changed yet

I don't see why having 2 slightly diffrent logos one with Granada on a black background and the other with it on a blue background is confusing?
