EXCLUSIVE !!!

2DTV found out where ITV2 broadcasts from:

Apparently though, they're having to move out of that shed (or bijou 'studio' apartment!) into smaller premises later this year.

ITV 2 broadcasts from the London Studios on the South Bank, it's continuity is partly live, partly recorded.

It shares the same transmission suite as Carlton/LWT, ITV Network and ITV Sport.

The announcers continuity booth is in fact slightly larger than the one used by our friends at Carlton and LWT - in fact it houses a small setee! There is harldy room to swing a cat in the booth used for Car/LWT.

The transmission suite itself houses Carlton/LWT, then there are glass partitions dividing it, if required, from thr main ITV Network Playout area, next to this is ITV 2 transmission.

The continuity booth for Carlton/LWT is as I mentioned quite small - housing a nice leather chair! The announcer has an array of monitors in front of them and a huge clock and to their left a series of switches for microphone output. One for local announcements (just to London) the other for network announcements. These microphone switches can also be controlled by foot pedals underneath the desk.

Equipment and set up wise the Continuity studio at ITV2 is practically identical although slightly larger.

Hope that makes sense!

The Carlton/LWT anno's booth is small, because when they built it, they realised it wasn't soundproof. And thus had to add a little more and thus it shrunk in size. It's very cosy in there though. There's about 2/3 switches to put the mic live in there, the foot peddle being just one. The monitors are also selectable and the ITV Network TC and the Carlton TC can theoretically link up and control each other's output.

Just caught the end of last night's Pop Idol main show repeated just now on ITV2 and the ITV2 anno was talking over the LWT announcer! Is it 'burnt' into the programme or did ITV2 just forget to pick up the clean version? The anno seems to be live - just sounded like he was waiting for the LWT guy to shut up!

Cheers, Asa

I reckon ITV2 has really pulled its socks up just lately - much, much better quality than ITV1! Although last night I was rather **** ed off to find that they had swapped round the David Letterman show with Club Reps Uncut without informing the lovely Sky EPG! Meaning I only saw 10 minutes of Club Reps! Thank God for repeats, thats all I can say! Razz:
