Foolish, I agree with your point about how they can still be the place to go for Regional advertising.

How is it foolish, if they're making more money from what they are doing now?

Local advertisers could still go with ITV in London if they could afford it, I assume. You seem to be suggesting ITV should spend more on programming, to attract less in advertising revenue.

What you're saying doesn't make sense.

I've got to give you a Kudos rating for that post Laughing . Regional advertisers still advertise within the Central region so I guess it's the same for London. However I still feel ITV have something to give to Regional programming within their National based schedule (as stated previously I feel this should be sub-Regional News, a Political segment within a National programme and a Current Affairs programme) , even if they need the amendment of current regulation to achieve this. This will allow ITV to continue to challenge the BBC's services, alongside the more localised 'local' stations.

However regional rates in the Central region will be considerably cheaper than in the London region where the coverage area covers 14m adults. This has priced out even medium sized chains which has led to only large budget companies advertising.

It's the same with commercial radio which cover the capital which relies on national advertising, except for niche stations such as Sunrise Radio which have local ads for Asian companies.

Will "London Live" have exactly the same catchment area as BBC/ITV London?

I can't remember when ITV London last aired regional advertising.

Surely there's regional adverts all the time? The last time I was there Magic 105.4 seemed to be advertised on every break. There's probably a lot more than you realise, and you'd only really notice with London and another region on screens side by side

Magic of course have a large publicity budget thanks to their parent company Bauer Media and The Dogs Trust - Harefield is another ITV London regional advertiser which just came back into my memory.

However, there isn't the type of regional advertiser, such as a double glazing company or a car lot which you'd expect to hear on local radio in London.

On Freeview at least, it was supposed to be anywhere north and west of Crystal Palace with next to no reception in South East London, however it appears that they'll have a power increase at launch that they'll be able to cover most of the same area as ITV and BBC London, although relay transmitters won't have the local mux which will lead to inevitable gaps in coverage, although I expect it'll be received in the home counties. Sky/Freesat will map the channel the same as the BBC/ITV along with Virgin Media.

ITV need to think less about the cost and more about the opportunity again when it comes to regional content. If Local TV channels can see themselves running on a budget of £10-£15m before the BBC subsidy there has to be opportunities for ITV to dip their toe back into the water and just restore a bit of faith into it's own network without losing it money.

Sadly though they seem to be rather short sighted, like with the recent reduction in news requirements which really can't be saving them that much money at all.

Even as far back as the 1960s ITV companies were being criticised for not producing a good enough standard of local programming. Local content has very rarely made profit in the past. Local advertising does, but of course, local advertising doesn't need local programming.

London Live is listed as using two transmitters. Crystal Palace from launch and nearby Croydon from July. Is the latter to improve coverage in South London or as a back up for CP?

Estuary TV launches on Freeview tomorrow.

There is a report here which seems to be from The Daily Politics.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-25054728

Also apparently they'll be reports on BBC News at 6 and 10 tonight from Estuary about the launch of the local TV network.

The schedule can be viewed here.

The 25-minute length of most programmes seems a bit odd. Nothing particularly stands out in the schedules either.

The thing is though Brekkie, what would ' stand out ' for you that these broadcasters can realistically achieve? If i'm a resident of that area what I want from this new channel would be news that is much more local to me than the BBC or ITV offering, with extended coverage of major stories and local sport programming, both are there in the opening night.

My suggestion would be for Estuary TV make as many links with Grimsby Town as possible and produce a weekly highlights programme if the Football Conference and maybe BT Sport can agree to it. This could be screened Saturday's just before MOTD begins and a few times on Sundays. I think they'd have enough volunteers to film it and get it ready for broadcast. It would bring a lot people in.
