It'll get messy then when there are two channels in an ITV region broadcasting on Sky - surely they can map more specifically.

Think there are two issues.

One is the creation of the postcode database that defines the new, more local region. Who will pay for its creation?

Two is the creation of more subdivided EPG bouquets on Sky. Again a process that costs. (I think there may be a limit on the number of them that can exist - though the newer generation of cards may have changed that)

Will be interesting to see how many local stations can afford to be on satellite I guess - then whether Ofcom/DCMS push for greater EPG regionalisation on EPGs.

I wonder if Sky also went for the current way of mapping using the ITV regional sub-opts considering there won't be a huge demand for satellite coverage considering the low budgets these channels have?

Virgin Media seems to be a viable alternative for some of the smaller channels. Notts TV and Mustard are on there and Estuary TV were already on before it launched as a DTT channel, which is why the channel is in the 800s, rather than 159.

Suspect it is more a case that the Local TV operators went for what Sky offered, can't imagine Sky would shell out to refine their EPG mapping unless there was some money in it for them. And I don't think Local TV has much of that...

That's going to cause no end of problems in the Granada TV region, if Sky cannot distinguish different areas within it.

Well, Ofcom has dictated that local TV is carried (if sat delivery is opted for) on EPG Ch 117, so it will be interesting to see what happens when there's a conflict

Mustard TV is still only on Freeview.

Made in Leeds is under investigation by Ofcom for two breaches of content standards according to today's Broadcast Bulletin. One is for a trailer for Clubaholic.tv and the other for a programme called How To Pull A Lady.

So Made in Leeds have at least one viewer then.

Rather disjointed 6-7 pm hour tonight on Made in Leeds.

Extended fillers until 6.05 meant the news programme, On The Aire, started five minutes late. The centre break (comprised of ads, PSAs, trailers and fillers) ran from 6.14 to 6.25. You read that right, *eleven minutes*. Then part 2 until 6.37, and a one minute break leading into the events programme, The Book-it List, starting eight minutes later than billed. The timing in the 6-7 hour has been erratic before - one night last week, the news was done by 6.19…

As for content - On the Aire seemed caught on the hop by the latest Cellino rumpus at Leeds United. They served up a soundbite from ex-player Andy Richie, and a month-old clip of Cellino mumbling in general terms about the squad, sourced from LUTV. They seem to rely on the LUTV tie-up for Leeds United content, fair enough when it's press-conference footage etc, but an outside perspective is needed when a sizeable story breaks.

The rest of the news programme was adequate local telly, but unlikely to win many converts from Look North or Calendar. The story count is a little low, and packages tend to run longer than they ought, in a bid to fill the 30 minutes. Also, the presenter signed off with 'the weather's coming up shortly'. It never materialised.

The Book-it List got off to a fair enough start with a live song from a local women's choir, a couple of whom had a brief chat with the main presenters. Then a longish piece from the producer - who I've not seen on camera before - on December highlights in Leeds. Dwelt a bit too long on the Xmas lights which have now been on for a couple of weeks, but we'll let that pass. Then back to the choir for a quick song and natter into the break.

In part 2, the male presenter is now wearing a winter coat (he was in shirt sleeves for the first part) to link into an interview from the first week of Made in Leeds with Austin Mitchell. This is carried out by the same presenter, in his third outfit of the night. Austin's in good book-plugging form, but just as things threaten to get interesting, two minutes in, it's back to the choir for a chat with a couple of the singers and a final song. Then the end titles (with barely audible theme).

See what I mean by 'disjointed'?
