On the subject of the new year I was a little surprised to see none of the uk news stations covering the sydney new year. I've been compiling a tape since 1999, showing Sky News relaying the ch9 coverage. In light of the Asia disaster they've obviously opted out of new year coverage this year. The only channel to show it (all 15 seconds) was Euronews.

How about creating a thread each hour so you can put in the subtitle how many hours are left of 2004?

Confused

I will be hanging my head in shame, for this has been a year of failure and disappointment.
This has been a wasted year - a year of great depressions, of relationships gone, interests forgotten. When priorities have been disregarded for a chance to reflect on one's misguided importance.
This year has been the chance to spend nights never sleeping, hiding under blankets - seeking warmth under a boiling sun.
A year for avoiding light, people, avoiding the truth. A year for diluting moods with spirits and drugs, hoping to take the edge for the truth that cannot avoided.
It's been a year for false smiles - for tolerating the inferior, and never implying superiority. It's been a year of contradictions, hypocrisy and avoidance of the issue. It's been a year where half of it has been precariously balancing on the edge - hovering over a black hole of attempted suicides and drug abuse - ever teetering and ever threatening to jump and not be pushed.
It's been a year of failed attempts to crack down on failures, to cease what ended long ago, to seek comfort in closure, to conclude all failings in one simple movement, but more importantly - it's been a year of miscarriages, and so things continue.
It's the year that is about to end, and yet nothing has begun.
There's only one way to end such a thing, and that is to make a beginning.
A new beginning.
Somewhere else.
And to acheive that, I must leave you.
Here's to 2005 - when the bottle opens and the drink is poured, two eyes will close. There will be no disappointment, just a mutual understanding. They will stand and stare and nod their heads in pure comprehension.
The chance for a new beginning is the perfect time to end.
