It's quite an achievement to constrain yourself in that vast space they had with all those multiple-presentation points with that massive desk. They are as constrained now as BBC Breakfast. To me if you want it to be based just around the desk there needed to be other set changes to accommodate, not to just drop it in.

If you compare GMB’s two sets, you can really see the difference between them. Any sense of being a ‘typical’ daytime show has now absolutely disappeared with the current set. All of the fake windows, side tables, etc. which gave the show a slightly homely feel have gone - it’s very much a studio in a way that is very alien to daytime TV on the whole. It’s quite a masculine space now IMO, almost to a comical degree in some ways. The format that design concept is based off, however, has vanished in an instant.

I can personally see this enormous, imposing and slightly gopping (remind you of anybody...) desk being ditched as the format softens. I think we’ll see a much friendlier set design return as they work out what to actually do with the format.

But don’t they run the risk of GMB & This Morning looking too similar if they both have the ‘homely’ feel.

Of course, if social distancing remains in any form then having 2 guests in & around the new desk will look fine. And by this I mean, even after government restrictions are relaxed, will we be as “on top” of each other as before?
I was shocked really seeing the clips last night from Piers’ first show, just how close they all sat! (See also Strictly judges)

But I suppose that’s just the reprogramming of our brains as distancing has become a thing.

ITV might just do what they did after Jeremy Kyle and stretch This Morning from 6am to 12:30 Wink

Haha! Lets hope nothing ever happens to Loose Women otherwise it will be This Morning from 6-13.30 🤣🤣🤣🤣 haha lol

At least BBC Breakfast had a good long run as the number 1 rated breakfast show. A shame it's all over for them now.

I think it’s unlikely they’d go for someone who’s known for just as newsreader like Dermot.* Someone with a bit more edge or known for more general entertainment presenting is more likely, like Holmes, Madeley or Ray.

*I know Dermot has done Eggheads, but even that was a very newsreader style of the delivery.

Dermot used to do BBC Breakfast with Natasha Kaplinsky who was much more known for entertainment than news back in The day. Although I seem to remember criticism that he didn't suit the morning show And was better on straight bulletins, such as the 6 And 10. But since being at Sky he has been much more daring and edgy.

I know I’m as guilty as any of you. But the next one to mention rotas or potential successors for Piers has to get the drinks in.

Triple G&T for me.

FWIW, I rather like the desk. My first proper chance to see it was during Piers’ walk-off. The aerial view showed it to good effect. I like it.

I don’t know if it was due to last minute circumstances today, but the voiceover announcing Susanna and Ranvir sounded rather weak. Almost as though the music was drowning it out.

Is that normal?

Your last point: yes that voiceover has been in place since 31 August last year

I was waiting for this...

Honestly, I reckon BBC Breakfast will overtake again very soon (if they haven't today) - I think a decent amount of people will switch off due to Piers leaving.

I think Piers should still make a one off comeback on Christmas Day.

I'm not sure things have got that rough that we're having to replace Santa Claus.

No lol, just presenting GMB not delivering presents (unless you're implying Santa is the new anchor alongside Susanna).

I don't see why they can't utilise the other areas once social distancing is eased 🤞
