Richard Bacon is based in LA now IIRC not sure if Nicky Campbell would be interested either.

I can't see Nicky leaving a breakfast radio show which rates better than GMB. Radio is still where the audience is during breakfast time.

Radio is reported on weekly reach. Breakfast TV shows are reported on meaningless 3 hour average audiences. Apples and oranges.

Surely Susanna and Ranvir would be the no brainer at this point?

Would Matthew Wright offer the right balance of journalistic tenacity and cheeky banter?

They just need someone who is bloody good to hold politicians to account, for all his faults he was very good at it..

What's annoying is that it's not even a particularly difficult thing to do, but it seems like no other bugger'll do it these days.

Rule 1) If you ask a question and you don't get an answer, keep asking the question .

I think Susanna is more than capable of doing that, she manages on a Thursday, but doesn't get the headlines because she isn't Piers. What Susanna does need though is a hard hitter beside her. Even when she asks some brilliant questions on a Thursday you know Ben is going to come in with a soft question that won't get answered properly.

Who that is I'm not sure. Madeley was good on his guest hosting stints (I'm thinking the interview with Gavin Williamson and the elephants where he said "interview terminated") but not sure whether he'd want the commitment of doing it 3 days every week. Same goes for Eammon and Richard Bacon. Emma Barnett is brilliant but she's only just joined R4WH. I'd have said Kay Burley if you asked me 6 months ago.

Think the tactic will be to have a few people do guest stints to test the waters before making a decision. I even think someone like Kevin Maguire - who Susanna obviously knows well considering how often he's on the programme anyway - would be interesting.

To be honest Piers was the only reason I watched GMB - I liked that combative style. I know he could go too far at times, but at least he was asking questions people wanted answers to, especially taking incompetent government ministers to task, hauling them over the coals and holding them to account and taking none of their BS. I have tried watching it on the days he isnt there and to be honest it is dull as dishwater. The subs try to adapt his style but they fail miserably.

Thoughts with Erron Gordon at this time.

I’d suspect if they want a male replacement then Adil Ray is a high contender followed by Alex Beresford....
What’s Matthew Wright up to these days? Very Happy

Or is there any radio presenters who might be a good questioner... James O Brien? Majiid Nawaz? Or to get many peoples backs up Nigel Farage? Wink

I'm sorry but both Adil Ray and Alex the weather guy should stick to what they know. Either starring in terrible sitcoms or reading off an autocue for 2 minutes to viewers in Bristol.

Why? Erron should have been screaming down his ear telling him to wind it in. I don't feel sorry for him at all.

Surely Neil Thompson as Editor must have questions to answer as well for allowing this farce to carry on for as long as it did.

If ITV decide to go with a presenter similar to piers they might go with Eamonn Holmes, since leaving this morning at the end of last year he probably has spare time on his hands

I wouldn’t say I’m a fan of Alex, Adil is getting more outspoken on Twitter... sometimes presenters are appointed when they are not always the best...

Adil Ray wouldn't work permanently - to contrast Susanna's more 'liberal' perspective they need someone a bit more to the 'social conservative side' (e.g. like Piers). Richard Madeley and Eamonn Holmes come to mind.
