Longer than you would think. It's not a case of testing, thinking it works and then launching it. It's got to be stress tested, i.e. spending a day putting it through all sorts of things, if problems occur then they have to go back to the program, edit, then test again.
The F1 interactive application is very important for Sky, after all they are going to be charging £12 a weekend for it's use. This means that they can't afford for anything at all to go wrong.
Best to be safe, rather than sorry.
