They won't care that there's only 1 mic.

They do though in certain circumstances, both of which happened yesterday - more than one contributor talking at once, but only one mic, so we kept missing bits of what they say; and getting multiple competitors on, trying to share the mic by holding it between themselves, resulting in the sound level (and background noise) going up and down constantly.

It just looks and sounds shoddy, and it is noticeable to non-interested parties.

For some reason they also keep showing shots of a shopping trolley filled with kit. It's like they desperately want to show some foreground objects, but forgot to bring anything suitable with them to Russia.

The trolley thing has taken off on social media and they're having a bit of fun with it. It's actually quite an ingenious solution to put everything (receivers and lights and monitor) on there and I think it's just a very British way of doing things.

But I suppose you're right about the mic.

It's not ingenious - it's been done for years, except it's kept out of shot because it looks cheap and unprofessional.

Has it? I've never seen them on a moving trolley before. The BBC F1 crew, for instance, have a guy who carries the Return feed monitor around, and probably other stuff too.

Ah well.

They were using an office trolley back in the late 80's on ITV drama to carry the sound mixer / VT machine and associated gubbins, and I've seen numerous examples of trolleys of various types being used to carry kit around since then. I've used wheeled crates for the same purpose.

The F1 coverage is slightly different in that they're not allowed to have anything that isn't carried by one person in the pit areas. They'd not be allowed to push a trolley down there even if they wanted to.

Aye, fair enough then. I expect the rules are even more stringent after pit lane incidents.

That was really interesting, I honestly didn't know Sony built cameras over here, certainly not in Wales. I assumed it was mostly Japanese robots building them!

The cameras are built in Wales to circumvent EU anti dumping rules

Simple, clean, practical and elegant. Many Scandinavian sets are. "Just enough" as they say in Sweden with the word lagom.
