Fair play to Gary Lineker. That takes balls.

Forgive me if I'm out of the loop on this but I'm surprised to see the Tag Heuer sponsorship for the clock appear on MOTD, small as it is.

Well, don't know how interesting this is but I'll post it anyway: Sky are going with the full, four letter word of 'HULL' for their scoreboard whereas the BBC are using the traditional three letter abbreviation, so it's 'HUL'.

They should expand everything to four letters...

Especially when there is no clock there. Sticks out a bit there - wouldn't be so obvious if it came up with the main lower third graphics.

Also an EA Sports logo on the league table at the end of the show.

I'm not entirely aware of exactly how the BBC is allowed to carry such sponsorships, but is it something to do with a loophole regarding data/statistics can refer to the company allegedly compiling them (even if in reality this might be superficial, eg Tag Heuer)?

As seen when Rolex/IBM pops up during the tennis, etc.

Could it be a requirement of the rights agreement?

It's a bit had to spot, but it looks to me like the BBC graphics are covering up a world feed scoreboard. Look at the left edge of the graphic - seems to be something behind it.

Was the Tag Heuer logo up during the entire match? I wasn't paying attention when it aired live but I just fast forwarded through it on my TiVo and it only appeared sporadically and during key moments. From what I noticed it was at the start of the match, at 45 minutes, then 48 when half time begun, when the second half resumed, at 75 minutes, 90 minutes when extra time begun and then finally at the end of the match. The matches that took the world feed followed the same structure.

Could there be an exemption for requirements in the leagues contract?

The world feeds scoreboard doesn't follow that layout.

I think so. For a while about 15 years ago, Mark Goodier had to mention Coca-Cola on the Radio 1 Top 40 show as they were the sponsors of the UK Chart Company.

There are sponsorship requirements that go with Champions' League coverage. At one point the BBC either bid or considered bidding for rights. I think it would have had to have used the same music as ITV use along with mentions of the sponsors.

I'm not so sure about that. Way back in the late 90s I had an official Champions League game for my PlayStation. The game titles were the full opening sequence of a TV programme without any sponsor stings. I imagine, had the BBC CL rights they would had access to those titles.

I seem to remember reading an article saying that they BBC would have been able to show sponsorship stings had they been required by UEFA. I can't find this article now. There is this article - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-523210/BBC-bids-400m-Champions-League-games.html - which says that the BBC wouldn't have shown the sponsorship, but as the rights come "pre-sponsored" they'd have to have made up the financial shortfall, meaning the rights would have been more expensive than they were for ITV at the time.
