Well if the people from The Day Today are in it, I'd say it's about 10 years old!

still valid though?

I'm sure it is; quite interesting to watch I'm sure.

Though if it is 1994 (and I don't know that it is), you'd need to remember that it has moved on quite a way. It is 10 years after all - I'd imagine lots of bulky computer screens with those lovely green characters, a few odd typewriters, a lot of paper and a bit of virtual studio. I'm sure the processes haven't changed *too* much though.

Bizarrely, I have seen this particular programme before, in the middle of the night a few months ago. It doesn't dwell enormously on the technology persay, but it's more to do with putting reports together and "presenting" them (ie the journalistic practices involved) than the technical pres elements.

When they do briefly go over the technical aspects, it's the chap who designed the Day Today graphics talking about them - and what he says about them, and more generally about how graphics are used in news, and how cutting and editing techniques affect how people perceive the news - is still just as valid today as it always was...

Yup, it's actually an extra on The Day Today DVD (under 'po-faced analysis). It does well to show how stories are constructed, but also give an alternative, cynical opinion about news programmes. And it's every bit as relevant nowadays as it ever was.
