I think they should have kept Movies Classics and Movies Indie separate instead of merging them as Sky Movies Select, and not closing down one screen in order to launch Sky Cinema Disney..

it's a bit weird how they used to have 2 or three classic movie channels, and now they only have one screen on Select ("weird" concept), which for the most part airs Indie movies anyway

But I'm happy they decded to get rid of the "Modern Greats" name

It still exists, a shadow of its former self, 701-716 showing just four movies (Zoolander 2 on eight channels, Deadpool on 4, Triple 9 on two and Grimsby on two). Plus two more on 743 and 744 showing Alvin and the Chipmunks Road Chip and Secret in their Eyes respectively.

I can't believe I have seen the first spectacular detailed CGI ident in so many years in this country. Wonderful to see.

It's a very 1980s/early 1990s ident, isn't it! (I mean in style rather than in technology used or quality). Mind you although fully CGI idents went out of fashion on TV, they never really did in cinema, so maybe this is meant to reflect that.

It does feel a bit Odeon-esque now you've mentioned it.

I think they are trying to capture that spirit the movie channels used to have back in the old days. The reality is that movie channels, are really on the way out. It's like Blockbuster, I remember going to the store as a child, and getting that wow feeling that you were renting a new movie, it used to be the same with Sky Movies, but these days you can watch what you want, when you want at the click of a button.

There was a promo just before the 8pm mini-simulcast of Spectre on Sky1, the tag line was feel the films (or something similar), and you'd be forgiven for thinking it was an actual Odeon ident, it was wonderful to see.

I'm as big a fan of CGI idents as the next person but after some spectacular Sky Movies idents in recent years the Sky Cinema ident is little more than something to do the job.

Modern Greats was shortened to Greats with the last revamp three years ago.

Sky Cinema Disney has been given its own unique ident. Video from Sky Creative:
I much prefer these new idents, really makes it seem more like a cinema having a proper CGI ident, perhaps if there was more than one ident per channel it would loose this feel. Its as if the idents are a continuation of the idents from Sky back in the 90s which is really welcome. I certainly didn't think we would have fully CGI idents on Sky1 and Sky Cinema in 2016! Well done Sky!

Don't normally pay attention to this kind of thing, but there's some very good sound design on that ident. Sounds great with stereo headphones; wonder what it sounds like in 5.1 surround.
