I certainly didn't think we would have fully CGI idents on Sky1 and Sky Cinema in 2016! Well done Sky!

Hopefully it'll kickstart a trend and we'll start seeing the back of tedious live action idents.

I really hope so.

Live action have done the same to idents like what digital backdrops have done to tv studio design.

The Sky Cinema website has a nicely rendered version of the 3D logo used onscreen. Normally a flat print logo is used on the Sky websites instead. Looks very classy compared to the flat design in the second image.

i think they're bland and soulless.

there is no way the new disney ident is a patch on the old one, technically or creatively - they are not even in the same league.

full cgi idents look so dated to me, the best, most cleverest idents are those which blend reality and cgi in interesting ways - like the previous sky movies idents - it's hard to know what's real and what's fantasy (and that i would say is quintessentially the most important quality of cinema).

These new ones were obviously a rush job. Hopefully they'll spend a bit more cash on the next refresh and come up with something which doesn't look so generic.

the old sky movies ident disney ident can't be far off a masterpiece. it captures everything about what disney tries to be, magical, fastastical, faraway world. it's almost as iconic and detailed as the actual walt disney pictures ident.

I agree the old Sky Movies Disney was very well produced, but perhaps a bit too long to be used as an ident. The logo animation at the end was poorly added onto the footage in my opinion. The footage would have better suited for a promo or breakfiller than an ident. The use of a single dramatic CGI ident before films better reflects the feel of a cinema especially now that the channel is called Sky Cinema.

I think peoples dislike towards live action is directed towards idents which just has any old footage with a logo applied on top, like Lifetime and Sky1's idents prior to the current rebrands on both channels. The high production values and quality animation of the Sky Movies Disney ident made up for this. Some of my favourite idents in the past have been live action, like the Channel 4 2004 and Sky1 2008 idents which put the logo center stage in the ident and integrated it in a creative and interesting way.

I certainly wouldn't think the new idents were a "rush job". There probably was a technical need to create new idents, the old Sky Movies idents were produced in HD and in 3D. The new idents would have been produced in 4K for the launch of UHD channel later this year, which I am sure will look stunning.

BT are late to the party, the channels are still referenced as 'Movies' on the EPG today.

the new ident is only 15 seconds shorter?

i liked the idea of the advert where they used a particle effect to render apparitions of iconic moments from cinema "et phone home" etc, that i think would have been a much more interesting way to develop these idents... what we've got here is a lot swooshyness and not a lot of meaning.... the older idents had meaning, they wonderfully depicted the blurring between reality and fantasy that cinema is all about and was wonderfully captured with them, these are just generic.

technically, they are good rendered bits of graphics, i do not dispute they will look crisp at high resolution, but they lack meaning or at the very least, totally miss the point of what cinema and film is about, it isn't about projections or lenses, it's about being immersed in another world, these idents fall way short of that mark.

It's strange that they keep the Disney name in the logo for Sky Cinema Disney but all the other channel names go below in plain text, or aren't seen on screen at all.

Yeah, they have to use the Disney logo, but that doesn't explain why it's to the right of the coloured bar instead of underneath.

Because Sky Cinema Disney is more of a brand of its own, due to its particular nature (the Disney brand) and partly because of a past link to the Disney Cinemagic channel, which they somehow want to probably keep
It also has a slightly different ident

The rest, instead, are just "common" Sky Cinema channels, where the only difference is the genres

To give equal prominence to both logos? Seems pretty obvious to me… also presumably why BT Sport ESPN has such a huge (and ugly) logo
