BBC2 Network just showed the 1999 ident for Afternoon Classics. With its original soundtrack.

Just when I count them out, they pull me back in. Why on earth haven't they just ran with this full time.

I do wonder if Network have ever looked at Wales or NI and asked, "Hey guys, why haven't you used our stuff? Is there something wrong with it?"

Well, they wouldn't be able to use any Wales idents from this era, as, apparently, Cardiff don't have clean copies. They only have the 2000 versions (i.e. 1997 logo with URL) in their 'ident cupboard'.

BBC TWO NI aired both the 1992 and 1994 Christmas idents last night, both with the centred logo. The former carried Silk's music and the latter had Swan's.
Wow - is that the first time one of the nations has done their own Christmas idents since the COW/TWO era?

No - NI did their own bauble based one in 2012(?) In response to the red curtain. I think it was a re-edit of footage taken for their advent calendar strand put to the previous snowball ident soundtrack. Again much better then the network effort.

If you want to see the television brand identity equivalent of a complete and utter car crash, BBC Two is your home this Christmas.

The Arts Night series offers a smidgen of hope for better things to come.

I'm far more critical of BBC Two with regards to presentation. Whereas at least BBC One's communicates the message of Christmas well, even in spite of production values being poor - BBC Two is downright fatalistic. The soundtracks are also painful to hear - there is no harm in bringing the originals back.

I think it's massively unfortunate the duration of Christmas campaigns has increased while the production quality (and any adherence to pretty basic branding consistency rules) has dropped through the floor.

Consistency is broken across the BBC - and BBC Two embodies a car crash of presentation. BBC One's case is just overstaying it's welcome, while taking notes from the book of bad TV pres.

1996 ident has the Wave Night soundtrack added to it.

All in all - NI shows how it's done. While they don't have the original soundtracks for the idents they're showing they're at least putting the effort - unlike Network.
