What's that street supposed to represent, is Coronation Street getting gentrified? Judging by the tattiness of the houses and the people that live in them, I'd say no. Coronation Street now seems to be even more unrealistic in terms of setting than ever, with two upwardly mobile restaurants a stones throw away, a pub that seems to have no problems with lack of customers, a doctor's surgery, hairdressers, newsagents, corner shop and Co-op supermarket both co-existing, a factory that is still making garments that would have closed down decades ago as everything is now made in China, two fast food shops (ok that actually would be accurate), a Cafe and a Costa co-existing within about 6 metres of each other, police station and much more. All in walking distance with no medium-heavy traffic going past, oh and a taxi rank at the end of a cul-de-sac.

Yes it is unrealistic, but it’s a TV show.

A realistic setting where the street is empty from 8am to 5pm because everyone has gone to work, and then everyone stays at home at night watching Netflix would not be a great TV show to watch.

All the soaps have unrealistic set ups

This isn’t Digital Spy, it isn’t compulsory to moan and complain about every single thing, in fact the discussion of the new set over there is actually more positive.

Maybe we can ask where everyone's cars are parked too?

Though I've noticed on the ITV3 episodes we have frequently seen card parked on the street, though you never see that these days.

Oh I apologise for expressing an opinion and that it isn't positive enough for you. I'm aware of what is real life and what isn't but some sort of distant association to real life considering that is essentially what this programme is supposed to do would be nice.

I can actually believe the setting of EastEnders and Emmerdale. Coronation Street's setting simply doesn't exist in any form in reality.

They're totally realistic compared to the US soaps! At least we don't have aliens or witches or evil twins (well, the Crossoads 00s revival did have the latter!).

The bits of the new set with the shop units in arches reminds me of a bit they used to have at the old Granada Studios that you saw on-screen sometimes, which I think was filmed where the entrance to the Granda Studio tour was (and the original outdoor set before it).

I'm convinced some people on the show are watching the ITV3 repeats, we keep getting some nods back to that era recently. We had Audrey doing the hair of a clairvoyant who claimed she was in contact with Alf tonight.

I like the tram stop, I’ve always thought they should have had something like that, although I envisaged it behind Kev’s garage.

I’m not sure any Metrolink stations in real life have ticket offices though.

One question that will pan out is whether the Police Station is supposed to be where it is in relation to the rest of the street, or is it meant to be elsewhere, and you won’t see anyone walking to/from it.

It seems the lunchtime repeat never really started until Sept 93 but again If STV did take them it would have been at 13.55.

Actual Metrolink stations have only ever had ticket machines. Many of the ones that had ticket offices that were originally local BR suburban stations before Metrolink was established in 1992 have either had their ticket offices demolished or boarded up.
