Thanks to the uploader of that video for adding their own subtitles, including "(SIGHS AND COUGHS)"

How did the regional opting for GMTV work? Obviously the breakfast slot wasn't the franchisee's purview, so I assume their own playout suite wasn't in line at the time. Did LNN do the lot?

GMTV was looped through most of the regional ITV companies, so they could opt for local news. All except Granada and UTV (two other non ITV companies did those regions I think? ). It all came out of LNN but LNN inserted (from the South Bank), macro regional ads

Pretty impressed that the Anglia newsreader refers to the cock up, even referencing Grampian. I'd have expected him to have ploughed ahead with the bulletin.

Agreed. He was probably also seeing the Grampian presenter. I suspect his own gallery cued him in to start?

I thought it was STV rather than Granada who had their news from a third party? McMillan or some such I think.

It was UTV that had the news from a third party. They did provide news bulletins from GMTV's launch, but in 1994 interrupted GMTV to show rolling news coverage of the loyalist ceasefire, upsetting them as this was in breach of their licence. From 1995 it was provided by Reuters, then ITN from 2000, and finally McMillan from 2005 until UTV began producing breakfast bulletins again in 2013.

Edit: Apologies, I had completely forgotten that McMillan also did the Scottish breakfast bulletins from 2007-2013, though that would have been after the video we're discussing.

UTV certainly, but I think McMillan also did Scotland.

Yes, see my amended post. Should have done a bit of memory jogging/research before posting.

Continuing the tangent... did McMillan/Reuters/ITN have bases in the respective regions for which they were providing GMTV local bulletins, or was everything done remotely?

Macmillan Media still operates its bases in Belfast & Glasgow as production facilities.
