Same as with any other region if a network programme fell off air?

Well yes, but we're back to my original question, how extensive were the voice comms between TSW and CTV ?

I'm guessing there was a link between transmission control rooms in Plymouth and St Peters Port. It would have to have been a open mike to prep CTV with a dedicated operator.

In the normal cases though the stations would be receiving a clean feed, so even if they were tardy in sticking up a caption, their viewers wouldn’t be treated to pres from another station. Exemptions of course existed - look at the PPB that repeatedly failed to play properly and YTV viewers received both Thames (albeit unbranded) apologies and local YTV ones. It looked rather messy.

True enough. I guess it may not be an accident that TSW's pres studio had an unbranded set.

TSW’s interruption at the start of Space 1999 took place during a local 10:50 Wednesday morning screening with ITV Schools still on the Christmas break. The date was 11 January 1984.

In those days, Channel did not usually start their schedule until around mid-day (except for ITV Schools). On this particular day, Channel’s first programme, Flicks, was billed at 12:00 so Judi and Westward’s TC would not have needed to worry about Channel. Viewers in the Islands may well have been enjoying the local testcard at the time!

I remember some Look North bulletins were reply by (I think) Newsroom SE due to a cock up or two.

Used to happen a lot as that was on network during the regional news slots. I remember seeing some Spotlight bulletins replaced by NSE

I worked briefly with an ex-Channel TC who’d worked in Jersey in the late 70s/early 80s. He said that there was keyed talkback to enable the Westward/TSW TC and the Channel TC to speak to each other.

Elstree (i.e. Newsroom South East) was on the network sustaining feed (for most of the time they were based at Elstree, NSE didn't opt-out and instead were cut up by BBC One/Two or the Breakfast gallery), so would have gone out in any region that failed to opt-out. They only really started opting out when DTT/DSat arrived, or soon after.

I remember once when I was working at BBC Leeds in the late 90s a digger doing roadworks on Woodhouse Lane went through an electricity cable, shortly before lunchtime, knocking out all power to Broadcasting House.

Radio Leeds managed to stay on air with generator power to the studios, albeit with hand-written scripts. The 1.30 Look North didn’t make it to air though, and as you say, Newsroom South East went out instead.

I was amazed how many people phoned up to complain.

I was amazed you left us hanging like that Very Happy Please, do tell. We're they ringing off the hook, or not troubling the phone answerers?
