I see Jack P as a Corrie lifer, not that thats a bad thing. We need the next generation of the likes of Steve/Kevin etc.

Far too many young corrie stars leave with a hope of going onto bigger and better things and either end up coming back, or being covered in jungle critters.

The Platts are always my favourite corrie family, although I wish they'd stop portraying Gail like a simpleton, always putting on a silly voice or singing rather than being a strong matriarch

I agree Jack is a lifer which is good. Others such as Maria, Fiz, Kirk, Tyrone, Eileen will have all been there the best part of 20 years now, in the case of Tyrone its over 21 years.

Many have come in and out of Corrie a few times over the years, Nick and Peter for example I've lost count of how many times they have left the show only to return a year or so later. Bev Callard has been in and out a few times too, she is leaving again soon (when that is could depend on what happens with future filming but it was supposed to be July) but I wouldn't be surprised to see her come back again In the future.

I think Jack's superb but is very much typecast as David Platt these days.
I think the Platts are suffering from overuse a bit what with Kylie's death, Shona being shot, the whole business of Shona's son, Nick robbing Audrey, David being raped, Bethany being groomed. Some of the show's best characters are in that family but it feels an almost endless circle of woe even by soap standards. Though I guess at least Sarah seems to be doing OK.

The Barlows for me are very much Corrie's best clan these days - there are loads of strong characters in that family. The Adam/Daniel/Peter/Tracy core is a strong one - the actors are great and seem to work well together (any scene that Adam & Daniel share is nearly always a very good one - they're arguably the best pairing on the show).

The Platts and Barlows are both strong families however I think I prefer the Barlow's more at the moment. As you say Rob Mallard and Sam Robertson are both great and work well together. it was a great idea to bring them both back into the show. Peter is a lot better in recent times as well. Ryan and Ali were another good double act as well, it was such a shame that Ali in particular was underused for much of his time in the show.

They don't seem to know what to do with the Bailey family. I realise that it take time for new families once they arrive but they have been there since last June or July. A month ago we had the storyline about James being gay and it being all over social media and also Aggie going back to nursing but both of these storylines seem to have been forgotten in recent weeks. I know that they block film a lot these days but they seem far better at rotating some of the cast rather than others.

Was tonight the first time they shown the disclaimer at the start of the programme before the sponsorship bumper?

Was quite startling to see a ‘Filmed before Social Distancing measures’ message before the programme had started.

Totally agree with this.
I get the feeling that as long as the actors stay the Barlow revival will be Kate Oates's lasting legacy to the show - bringing back Peter, Daniel and Adam was one of the very first things she did and it's been a pretty resounding success.
I will miss the Ryan & Ali pairing - again the two actors (Ryan Prescott & James Burrows) seemed to really have a natural chemistry and it's a shame we didn't get to see more of it particularly as James Burrows had always made it clear he wasn't going to be a Corrie lifer.

The Baileys too aren't clicking for me either. I'm glad they're not constantly on-screen like say Gemma but they seem to be real victims of block storytelling - they'll be on for a week or two then disappear completely for weeks on end so it's tough to invest in them as characters. Given the hype when they were announced you'd have expected to be a lot more prominent. Didn't help too that Iain Macleod freely gave away storylines that weren't even due to be filmed for many months.

Think so. Usually the CA does a disclaimer, which I think works a lot better (the board was blink-and-you-miss-it).

I'm sure we didn't used to be this thick. This is pure post Brexit Britain. I'm convinced before 2016 people were smart enough to understand most things on TV were filmed weeks/months in advance and we wouldn't need to explain why soaps and idents aren't reflecting real life.

I'd like to think it's less of a commentary on society and more ITV covering themselves incase somebody gets pulled and they say "Coronation Street said we can be social again".

Then again that's still a commentary on society...

Calling seventeen million stupid because they voted a different way to you in a referendum. Ironically, a stupid (and ignorant) comment to make, whichever way you voted.

Well it’s generally the people on twitter complaining about everything and always being outraged, and twitter of course skews towards remain, so your comment is basically nonsense.

There were some people who tuned into Takeaway five mins late last week and went straight on twitter complaining about the live studio audience that was in place!
