BBC Breakfast - 16th July onwards

I wonder whether they will leave it a week or so for the English regions to see what happens with the loosening of lockdown. There is little point having bulletins reporting "everything is quiet, hardly anyone is on the roads, but the weather is nice".

One option would be to provide an opt opportunity for the nation's and the team in Salford continue for England only.

If travel becomes more important but local resources remain stretched then could a travel bulletin be provided? Presumably though that needs resource. Is anywhere across BBC output providing any travel bulletins?

England is also a nation, but is 85% of the population, so it would be rather difficult to justify 3 opts for the 15% and just produce a rather general overview from the NWT 2nd studio for the rest of the UK. Either do opts, or do nothing at all.

They could just do a 'soft' story every half hour, and the regions and nations opt out if they wish to? After all opt is short for Option!

For someone trying to be so pedantic about every little thing, I'd have thought that you'd realise he's talking about BBC nations.

That is the regional news 90% of the time anyway, once they've got the local murder out of the way.

I think Regional News will return in the next few weeks, but it won't be every half hour. I think it will either be hourly bulletins, or even just one bulletin just before 8 o'clock to start, and build it up as the situation improves

If it's going to return it may as well return fully, not sure how you work out that it might just be hourly or one bulletin given the staff will be there.

When it comes back, it'll come back in full, the BBC aren't going to wake up the regions for anything less than the previous offering. In the current climate doing less would be a major waste of resources and finance.

It shouldn't take any more resources to reread the same script every half hour than to read it once. The only possible reductions that could make any sense would be dropping the first bulletin if this could allow the presenter to write their own scripts and having the presenter read the weather forecast rather than use someone else to present it.

I think that's the point, it's not worth putting those resources in place to only do one bulletin.

They might drop the early bulletins but I think once they do begin them they'll air them every half hour. I'm surprised really GMB didn't push their local news later to knock off at least half an hour of the day in the regions.
