I don’t quite understand what they’re hoping to achieve from an Ofcom complaint, considering Piers has now gone? I can only presume a fine for ITV?

Which would be a blow for ITV considering they paid for the interview & how much of a ratings success it was for them.

Any fine would be relatively smaller than it could have been because IIRC its based on the turnover of whoever is responsible for whatever went wrong at the time. ITV puts all its programme compliance stuff through Channel, who "compile" all that (whatever that means) so any sh*t that hits the fan that attracts a fine won't be anywhere near as bad as as it would have been had it gone through what was Carlton/ITV London weekday for example.

Stupid question, but surely it'd go through ITV Breakfast Ltd?

I don’t think that Channel thing is the case any more.

I'm not sure that was ever the case for ITV Breakfast anyway. Hence GMTV got fined £2million for the phone scandal.

So I’m finally getting round to watching Monday’s GMB, and might I say Chris Ship handled himself in an absolutely commendable fashion in the face of Piers who is genuinely coming across quite deranged.

I hate to delve into replacement speculation, but... 👀 I don’t think he’d be given the gig but he was previously ITV deputy political editor so I could see him doing a fine job.

It's "comply" as in "to be in compliance with regulations" and if I remember rightly that loophole closed, along with Channel's London office, a few years back.

It’s a strange one, but I’m sure Piers will be delighted! See how he is pushing his increased book sales etc. Just plays to his narrative.

Presumably they want to set some kind of precedent.

Presumably because ITV was ultimately responsible for the output.

ITV and most of the rest of the production are complicit.

Just seen the whole shebang mentioned on Gogglebox. Seems as though they were as excited as us to see Piers' reaction on Tuesday morning as they didn't appear to sleep after watching the interview on Monday night as they were all wearing the same clothes and sitting in the same positions.

Was watching a clip of This Morning where Holly and Phil are asking Andrew Neil whether he'll offer Piers a job and Phil seemed oddly pleased which makes me wonder if they didn't get on off screen? Piers IIRC always got annoyed that This Morning always won at the NTAs which was always fun to watch on GMB.

You do know how Gogglebox is produced? It has been known for years.
