Or, ITV Telethon '14 (sort of) - It's over! (October 2014)

Are there any videos of the live bits? Interesting from a technical perspective

ITV player seems to have most of it, expect for 2pm - 2.30pm time period!

That was, but I can imagine that looking a bit silly. Not exactly on topic, but relevant to ITV Towers - It is still a huge shame that the neon lights going up the pillars of the building were also rejected by the council, I seem to remember they were proposed when the new ITV logo came into force - the colours were going to reflect the logo.

I don't really see why that was rejected considering the multiple lights on so many other high buildings on the South Bank. Shame.

There's a substantial social housing scheme directly opposite the building and the occupants generally appear to routinely object to anything ITV suggest that may affect their 'lifestyle'.

That is their right as it would be the right of any rich people living there or indeed if ITV wanted to object to something in the neighbourhood which would effect their business in any way.

Why do you think they objected to a pedestrian crossing across Upper Ground given that a pedestrian was severely injured crossing the road outside the ITV building?

I am still catching up on the stuff which aired during the early hours of Tuesday morning. I watched the whole thing from 11am Monday live until about 1am tuesday morning when I went to bed. If I wasn't working Tuesday I probably would have watched it all live.

I am now up to Phil just after being at Downing Street, in the car with Moyles. Still loving it.

The one thing as a TV geek I would have loved to have seen would have been more of an actual tour of ITV Studios/London Studios building. Getting to see Phil go into Studios 1 & 2. Seeing some more of the editing suites, seeing a bit of ITV Creative areas etc. Being given some of the history of the buildings and studios etc. This would have just topped it all off for me as a perfect broadcast.

I too am catching up Tomo, but I'm still on Monday daytime. I watched Monday evening live until 11:30pm, but have daytime and the early hours of Tuesday to catch up on.

It has been nice to see him chat to people supported by the charities, it has made it feel personal.
Didn't CIN used to do this back when it launched?

I do agree that this marathon showed just how stale Comic Relief and especially Children in Need have become over the last few years, in terms of the entertainment factor. Obviously they're not exactly the same type of fundraiser, but it reminded me of how they used to be exciting or surprising, instead of the same thing every year.

I don't understand the comparisons between the Pipathon and the main shows for CiN and Comic Relief, they're different things. Just a few years ago we had David Walliams' 24 hour show for Comic Relief which in many ways was more interesting than Red Nose Day itself, same as that extended Graham Norton show. On the radio we've had Mayo's and Moyles' marathons. Obviously they're going to be a bit more interesting and stranger than the main shows because they go on for so long and they've got a much smaller budget so they have to be a bit more creative. The point of the main shows of all three charities is to raise as much money as quickly as they can so obviously it's going to be dominated by big set pieces that get bums on seats, not rather esoteric broadcasting like this.

You should compare the main Text Santa show with the CiN and Comic Relief shows, and the Pipathon with David Walliams', Moyles' and Mayo's things. The Mayo show in 1999 was brilliant, I listened to as much of it as I could, and it clearly helped that Mayo, like Pip, is clearly a lovely bloke who you want to spend time with.

The Pipathon was good fun, though. Loved the bit where they were trying to stop the telly going to standby.

Exactly - and in reference to the charity films people are seemingly complaining about the last thing the telethons are going to do is try and appease you by airing a 10 minute live interview instead. Whether you like them or not the films are probably the most effective way of getting donations .

I totally agree over that point for the main shows. It was nice to see the interviews on the marathon. I love the term 'pipathon' btw Steve.

This will give you some more info - at least how it used to be in the late 80's/early 90's.

Thanks for linking that video. Was great to watch.

Would be good if ITV did an up to date version for the facilities now, but doubt we will ever see one.

No it isn't, and hasn't been for quite a few years.
