The other day I noticed, but is it just me or does the Business Package on the News Channel have a different bed to WBR.

Yes, I realised that too, the opening at the start too is different.

It has a slight string added on it about every 10 seconds.

What times are business updates aired on the news channel? Are they all day? Are they on 7 days a week?

Business Updates are aired at a similar time to they were back at TVC at about '45 while the LSE in Open thus Monday to Friday only. I believe it is slightly longer in the 1600 hour as the LSE closes at 1635.

It is definitely the case that the final business update is at 13:45 and they have been finishing then since there return. Also for some reason they are much more likely to get cancelled than sports news for example and usually for no clear reason so you can never be sure whether they will appear or not. Perhaps the previous poster meant the market updates which happen even when there is no other business news.

Oh sorry, shows how often I catch the news these days. I must still be in my pre-2013 bubble. Embarassed

I've noticed a few times that on a Saturday when the evening news has aired at 10 precisely it's used generic titles, rather than the Ten titles which are used on the other 6 days at 10. Is there a reason for this?

I think but maybe incorrect ...
... The Saturday bulletin generally moves round the schedule from week to week;
... The Sunday bulletin was moved to a generally fixed 10pm (though moves for particular events or longer dramas) when Panorama was moved to Sunday and I think the bulletin was being presented by Fiona at the times as such it was branded as the Ten.

Thanks - sorry but I thought the rule was that it became News at Ten, when at 10 precisely or is it done this way to avoid confusing viewers? Looking at the schedule, it's back at being at 10pm the Saturday coming. I noticed they did this before Christmas too on BBC One, trying to nail the schedule a liitle but it seems that the news is always in the 10pm-10:30pm start range so it is not too far off.

The reason the news is generally within that range is because I believe contractually, aside for one or two specific exemptions, Match of the Day is required to be on air by 22:30.

I'm aware of other scheduling commitments but it doesn't explain why they don't show the 10 titles when at 10pm on a Saturday. Maybe they need to fix the news to 10 on a Saturday?

Sorry for the late weigh in to the debate about the screens but I noticed in the video somebody posted about the Gremlins at Breakfast and seeing the NC tests, the screens are not showing the globe but actual video, maybe this is always the case on the half-hour or when the NC starts. It's not always the globes that are shown on the screen.

Fixing the news on Saturday nights would lead to great inflexibility when scheduling BBC One's big ticket shows throughout the year. It wouldn't make any sense except to please a handful of news enthusiasts. Most people stay up a bit later on a Saturday night so it's not critical to have the news on at a fixed time. And the reason they don't use the Ten titles on Saturdays is partly because it moves around (therefore it would be inconsistent from week to week) and partly as a legacy from the decisions taken when Panorama moved to Sundays in the early 2000s. As has already been explained, it was at this time that the Sunday night bulletin was fixed to 10.00 pm and adopted the Ten titles. The Saturday late bulletin has always moved around for a justifiable reasons.

IMO Weekend News (on any network, not just the BBC) should either look & feel the same, and air at the same time as its weekday counterparts, or should be totally independent in look, feel and time.

Exactly. The Sunday edition is the 10 o'clock news - any other bulletins may just happen to fall at the time of the normal weekday counterparts. If a weekend lunchtime summary was to fall at 1 o'clock, they wouldn't use the '1' titles because it's not the 1 o'clock news.

1) They do look exactly the same.
2) They shouldn't need to be on at the same time as weekday counterparts because there simply isn't as much news around, At the weekends, entertainment and sport rightly take priority and news moves around depending on what's on.

Let's not forget that the BBC doesn't mind moving the 10 o'clock news on a Sunday every now and again to make way for a big film or drama.
