I assume that Southampton is the next backup after LDN then .. where would the feed come from if both ST and LDN failed?

Maybe Midlands Today? After all, Birmingham is the network backup, isn't it?

Birmingham is increasingly being sidelined as network backup, as its facilities are slowly being eroded due to the impending (yeah right!) move to the shopping centre.

It's not network backup, but the place where programmes come from if TV Centre is evacuated... but only after the automation at TVC runs out... and only if there are people at Pebble Mill who can playout programmes (the TVC guys have to leg it up the M40).

That's why the helipad was built on top of Stage VI, but as my entry above shows, Birmingham is slowly but surely frowned upon as next base

Shame !!!

When TV Centre is evacuated, theoetically does/did Pebble Mill have back up copies of all the transmission tapes that normally would be shown from TVC, or would they have to show whatever they could grab from the library at the time (presumbly endless Wildlife on One/Two programmes!)

What is/what will be the new Network back up? Is it the new South East region, or a different region?

Birmingham never had back-up tapes of current networked programmes. The deal was they would sustain with whatever they had until London Pres arrived with a suitcase full of tapes.

Unfortunately we now find ourselves in a very security concious environment, and as such you won't find many employees willing to discuss evacuation proceedures as it's such a sensitive issue

From what I understand, it was a fire alarm at Marlybone High Street (BBC LDN) that resulted in the back-up being used.

As far as helicopters go, from what I understand, not using them is mainly down to the lack of places to land around TVC. This question was raised when we evacuated for real back in 2000 (power failure) and we sat in cars in West London going nowhere because the traffic lights had failed and everything had ground to a hault.

What's the chemistry between Roger Finn and Sally Taylor like these days?

But these days (post 1995 when automation started) transmission can continue for several hours without anyone being there - as long as all the VT machines have programmes loaded. And now with servers it could be possible to have many many hours of programmes played out without human contact.

If you're talking about what will take over from Brum, It's not a regional thing. Regional centres don't have the facilities, infrastructure or capacity to run channels. Tunbridge Wells (and Marlybone High Street) are to all intents and purposes just off-shoots of TV Centre.

Brum is good for lines in and out and it is/was a big place with network production facilities
