Real shame one of the few weekday slots ITV do something a bot different is now being lost to more soap. What is filling the 8pm slot - considering its not been mentioned I'm assuming Emmerdale isn't moving.
Do think it would do a better job for ITV on Sundays.
Seems like a bad move that every night Corrie is on it's for a double episode and a massive commitment even for the biggest fans of the show. The Wednesday episode I think provided some welcome relief in that it was a night when it was just a single episode. Will also mean more of these often contrived 'cliffhangers' between the 2 episodes.
As has been mentioned it ruins the structure of the schedule, means they're going to need loads more 30 minute shows and presumably means the end of all light entertainment from midweek.
If it has to be this way, I think its probably got to the point now when it would actually be better if Corrie was in 1 hr blocks at 8pm, Mon, Wed & Fri.
I agree - somehow seems less of a commitment too. I don't think the Corrie sandwich is that significant a ratings booster to the shows within it and I think it just neatens up the schedule. Put the extra Emmerdale into the 7pm hour on Wednesdays and then Thursday 8pm can be used for the sort of shows previously aired on Wednesday.
The sitcom commitment won't last long, just like it didn't last on Thursdays at 8.30pm (think there was just the one in addition to Birds of a Feather). And as I said when ITV created that slot I don't understand why they don't look to their heritage and commission 30-minute game shows that can be put into primetime as and when required.
It only seems a matter of time too until Emmerdale gets a 7th episode a week - they aired for an hour on Tuesdays most weeks over the summer with no displaced episodes.

The small matter of EastEnders would stop that.
They would get out of the way and move permanently to 7.30pm (as two of their episodes already are).
My first choice for the 6th episode (if they must have one) would have been Sunday 7.30pm as its nice to have an episode set at the weekend and also keep the Wednesday episode a single episode. However id rather have a double episode on Wed rather than an episode on either Tues or Thurs. The downside is now we don't get any single episodes just double ones. I almost always watch the 2 together whilst skipping the ad breaks.
All I can say I thank goodness Corrie is in a better place than it was this time last year. Kate Oates has done a fantastic job producing the show and really turned it around IMO. I now look forward to watching it and don't get bored. Its not always perfect but its a heck of a lot better than it was from Mid 2014- late 2016 ish.
