Will Disney close all the UK linear kids channels?

Mirroring other international channels (October 2019)

Might as well mention that although the Disney Channel and Disney Junior brands are still on Disney+, XD is nowhere to be seen anymore. Makes sense, since the brand took shows from Disney Channel as well as a few Marvel shows, and they both have their own respective collections.

I think Disney sees XD as now a "redundant" brand and it's a shame because the channel basically was full of original programming, not just XD but Jetix and Fox Kids definitely pulled their punches for children and the last few months of broadcasting has shown that they lost their knack.

R.I.P Disney XD UK.

Did you record that? Surprised to see someone using the really old SD boxes to record from. Can't it be easily done using a HD box, which can be picked up incredibly cheaply online and your card can be paired to it in seconds?

I didn't record it, I found it on YouTube.

I dare say Disney have/had done what Turner did to their channels, the main channel gets the bulk of attention and all the archive stuff gets farmed off onto the sister channel. This happened with Cartoon Network when Boomerang was spun off into its own channel and Cartoon Network received a ton of new series, though they later undid a significant chunk of that and Boomerang did eventually start airing new stuff again. Disney wise, the eggs are firmly in Disney Channel's basket so to speak and to a similar extent Junior.

There is a chunk of the Disney XD programming on Disney+, though as you say its not labelled as XD content/originals, though there are a couple of XD shows on there that according to the Wiki page didn't actually air on the UK channel for whatever reason. I dare say the XD logo lives on on the endcards.

All channels on Sky now have slides for each respective channels. Disney Channel (and +1) and Disney XD have a still from one of their bumpers while Disney Junior has the logo on a grassy hill (as seen on their bumpers) with Mickey (in his Roadster Racer getup) holding a trophy, Animals (Muppet Babies) and Vampirina/Vee all around it.

Also, I thought SD boxes had EPG swapping, while, in that case, you have the Hd channels in the main position , with the SD variant far away at the end of the section, it's confusing

Sky+HD boxes (and I dare say Q) have the HD swap, SD boxes don't, since they're not HD. I don't know if the HD channels appear anywhere else though on the SD boxes.

As for Disney XD: it used to have more of an identity when the channel started, but , especially after the unification of the EMEA feeds schedule-wise, and after the US gave it up especially because of a focus Disney+, it became a sort of Toon Disney, with not much money spent on it

The original Disney XD content often moved to Disney Channel (especially because DXD in the US is on a higher package than DC US), so it made definitely sense not to have a section on Disney+

Disney Junior is another matter, because of the specific target, it's always been treated as good as Disney Channel, especially since they don't want to alienate the two targets

I know about the HD swap , but I thought SD boxes still had the SD variant on the main position, while that video shows they actually don't seem to care about SD boxes anymore

I wish the "now closed" slides for all 5 channels had information about it and animation like when Disney Cinemagic UK closed down in 2013.

Well technically Cinemagic UK didn't close down, it was just rebranded and relaunched as part of Sky Movies. Smile

But what's in place of what channel number it was originally on?

No, it actually closed down

Sky Cinema Disney is not a direct replacement, it's more of an agreement by Sky and Disney in order to keep a Disney movie channel (BTW it won't last long now).

Also Cinemagic showed TV shows too, during minor time slots, while SC Cinema is obviously focused on movies
