They really are dire!

A girl I know, all her friends, my mum and myself HATE them.
They are soo tacky, with all the cheesy poses. It makes you feel sick and hard to watch.

The old sqiggly writing was nice, but this looks like somwthing off MS Word and the strange orange lines at the top and bottom, along with the whole colour scheme. It is thw worst ever, very imbarasing and all the Aussie people I know (over 20) say that Neighbours is unpopular.

Now I know why!

How far are the ozzies behind with our soaps? Bet it's more than 4 weeks!
Well James, according to someone I know on the Internet from Australia, one of the most popular shows over there is The Bill.  I'm not sure if they show them in exactly the same sequence as we do (I guess they probably do) but I think they are nearly a year behind.

Just out of interest, would anybody here know how long it takes for the Australian shows to be shipped over here to the UK? Because if the one today was only shown in Oz four weeks ago, I think it's time the BBC started looking at ways to help expand the gap a bit.

Finally - does anybody know how is Neighbours presented in Australia normally - 4:3 center cutout, 14:9 or 16:9 letterbox?

Yes, The Bill is one of the most popular shows in Australia. It gets about 2 million viewers which is a lot when you consider their population is only 20 million! Comparing that with the UK's audience, they get about the same viewing figures as ITV1 does as the Bill gets 6 million here (1/10 of population).

It is 1 year behind and if anyone remembers the spin off from the Bill about Don Beech, well we saw it 1 year after he left - Australian fans saw it as soon as he left!

That special was great, but also all of the big story lines they have done, the first part of Don Beech and the Eddie Santini ones were great, but they seam unable to do ANYTHING in just one show, they always seam to do two or more parters; <ramble mode> I remember the good old days when they did specials that were an hour long (eg. the trial of the DI [the actress that went on to Bugs], 3 half hour shows a week and a good CID! </ramble mode>

EDIT: Oops forgot to comment about the topic! I think the titles are alright, better than the set before the most recent ones. Ramsbottom St, i'm sure its a story line that will rumble on for a while and take off when Steph and thingy settle down and Lib comes out of hospital!

I like the new titles. Its nice to see that they now include 'Neighbours, everybody needs good neighbours with a little understanding........' again. I know its only the end credits which have this theme tune on but its better than none of them including these words. I am not very keen on 'Neighbours, should be there for one another....'. Its not very neighboursey.

Wasn't there a line 'next door, is only a footstep away', in the original theme tune?

yes there was, rdd. I'm sorry they dropped that line cos it was one of the best in the original theme. I've tried to think how they could work it into a 'modern' version of the theme, but I don't know really.

BTW RTE played the long closing theme, which sounds much better IMHO than the BBC snipped version, which the BBC voiced over as well.

I like the new credits, and the theme/catch-up music is quite catchy... definite improvement - the melody is a bit closer to how the classic theme sounded than the last one I think.
