I was a regular BBC Breakfast viewer but since being furloughed a month ago, I don't think I've had it on more than 3 or 4 times. Generally because I'm not getting up as early. However when I'm back at work, whenever that is, I'll be watching again. I'm sure there's plenty of others in the same situation.

I'm watching GMB, just for variety of news sources. Still watch BBC Breakfast with a bit of Sky News weekends

Furloughed too, though when working I leave home at 6am anyway, so never did see BBC Breakfast weekdays

The loss of the regional bulletins is definitely hurting BBC Breakfast. 1.3m is low for it, no doubt about it. Last week, it was averaging 1.4m. It's on a downward trajectory.

Thursday 30th April
BBC One
0600-0900 1.6m/44.5% share BBC Breakfast
0900-1000 1.9m/31.7% share BBC News

ITV
0600-0900 0.8m/23.3% share GMB
0900-1000 1.2m/21.1% share GMB with Lorraine

Any show with a 44.5% share is pretty healthy... I'm guessing their coverage of Capt Tom Moore had something to do with that?

Looks like BBC Breakfast's downward trajectory was short lived....

This is being pedantic but what does Breakfast usually get from 9.00-9.15? I assume the general trend is ratings rise throughout the show but you'd think usually they'd drop in the last hour as people leave for work, but then those who don't have to at that time may only just be tuning in. I assume the peak would be around 8am or so.

Must admit since I've been furloughed I've not seen a minute of Breakfast. First thing I might catch is the 9am bulletin, but to be honest news is not how I've wanted to start my day lately. Indeed my news consumption is probably the lowest it's been for quite some time now.
London Lite, Cusack and GMc gave kudos

For info - on Friday the ratings were :

BBC One
0600-0900 1.5m/42.6% Breakfast
0900-1000 1.8m/31.6% BBC News

ITV
0600-0900 0.7m/19.8% GMB
0900-1000 1.0m/18.0% GMB with Lorraine

Thursday's ratings weren't a one-off blip because of the Captain Tom stuff it seems.

Ultimately however much people may state they've moved from day to day or hit record figures the ratings haven't really moved at all for both shows for a few years.

Yes - Piers constantly tweeting about ratings is a bit of a smoke and mirrors when compared to the reality.

Are you suggesting though that they can’t mention big ratings if they aren’t the normal ratings?

It's more an observation of Pier's highly selective reporting of ratings, and that they usually lack context/comparison. From some of his tweets you'd be mistaken for thinking that GMB was beating Breakfast in the ratings.

I remember back in the 90s when we would get a couple of different newspapers on a Sunday in our house, it was always entertaining how several of them would devote a good quarter of page 2 boasting about their circulation figures. It was all x% increase, x% of a certain age group - never just the raw numbers though.

Anyone would think Piers had a background in this sort of thing...
