I hope they don’t bring back the sofa i like the mega desk! However the lighter music they bought in at the beginning of 2015 i liked very much! But if Richard Madley replaces Piers i won’t be watching anymore... as i said a new upcoming presenter would be nice or if they won’t do this then Adil Ray for me

I know GMB is done by ITV and not the news division and is a separate franchise.

But do you think ITV New’s execs had a say (from this side of the Atlantic is seems like they use ITV News content)? I seem to recall at one point there were ITV News logos on screen so that makes ITV News and ITN a stake holder.

Were the presenters within GMB required to uphold the same integrity at those employed by ITN?

And do you think the average member of the public knows that Piers isn’t or wasn’t a member of ITV News?

It's more complicated than you may think - ITV News isn't the same as ITN... Also - ITN isn't an ITV franchise holder or licensee AIUI - it's a contractor contracted to provide ITV's network news operation (it may once have been a franchise - but I don't think it's currently a licensee in the same way as Scottish, ITV plc regions, ITV Breakfast etc. are)

ITV News is a brand - that brand is shared by both the ITV News operation at ITN, and the ITV plc internal regional news operations (who make the ITV Regional News) and are internal to ITV plc (and were originally operated separately by each ITV regional franchise holder like Granada, Meridian, Yorkshire etc. - with London eventually being produced by a shared LWT/Carlton operation called LNN).

So 'ITV News' is really not much more than a brand - plus some contract management with ITN and some regional news operation management.

When you people talk about 'ITV News Execs' that's a complicated thing to discuss - do you mean Execs at ITN who work on the ITV News provision, senior production team members in the ITV plc Regional News operation, or those who manage the overall ITV News provision across both?

'ITV News Content' is also a complex thing to define as a result.

AIUI ITV Breakfast is a separate franchise owned by ITV plc - which is the 0600-0925 nationwide ITV franchise (separate to the ITV plc regions, Scottish etc.). ITV Daytime make the shows which broadcast during ITV Breakfast's hours (and outside that franchise/licence's hours) and as part of that have a contractual agreement with ITN - who produce ITV's Network News - to provide some news gathering and possibly news production support (such as access to pictures, facilities and possibly in some cases reporters)

I'm not sure members of the public have a clearly defined idea of what 'ITV News' is - though that will change with age. My parents still talk about ITN instead of ITV News for instance.

When I spoke with ITV last year even they seemed unsure on specifics. It took them a while to get back to me and even then I was given a general overview rather than any specific statement or quotes.

I felt there is a real conflict between having ITV News branding on a show like GMB. It's deceives viewers into thinking you are getting the weight of what ITV News brings, which you don't.

Could this spell the end of the current era of GMB? I think it might have to.

I feel if the show continues with the same look and content and presenting lineup as it did during Piers tenure, then they’ll suffer from viewers constantly being reminded that Piers isn’t there anymore.

I think now Piers is gone, GMB needs a brash rebirth to recover from the embers and go for an alternative edge and style to gain the edge over the competitors to recover from Piers not being there anymore. Maybe in September when a permanent co-anchor with Susanna can be found.

They should at least give Roland Rat another go at saving GMB.

I would have suggested Jeremy Kyle, but he's not a viable option.

Wow! Waking up to all these pages of rota speculation! I guess it’s slightly justified in this case.

Only one person mentioned Sean Fletcher. He’s still in the GMB family and could bridge the gap until ITV decide on a permanent replacement.

Tom Bradby isn’t a bad idea either.

Radical thoughts to keep it all in the family:

Schofield and Susanna for GMB.
Eamonn and Ruth for TM.
Holly to replace Ruth on LW.

You heard it here first! Philip knows how to conduct an interview. Much more than Adil Ray. And alongside Susanna or another, it could just work. And the ‘signing’ of Philip would retain sufficient daytime viewer interest given he’s a known name and face.

Also allows for some tweaking across at the other programmes as well. (Eamonn and Ruth already a proven formula on TM).

Away from tv and pres, it’s sad that the departure of Piers has now become the story itself. Everyone is talking about him, and Harry and Meghan are something of a side dish for the timebeing.

Ironically, Piers will love all this attention he’s getting. Although a lot of the online comment is very negative, it’s still keeping his name up there and ‘feeding the beast’, so to speak.

^ Bumping this for those who missed it during the night. Schofield paired with Susanna/Ranvir/Kate/journo is a big enough name to generate viewership. And he’s more than capable of several hours of live tv. And of interviewing PM’s and such like.

Trying to find a like-for-like replacement for Piers (minus or with the toxicity) is impossible because there isn’t anyone.

A reasonably big name who can be paired with the existing presenters and who is well known by the public is what GMB needs if its to survive in the current format and to keep the punters coming back.

Otherwise, we are back to GMTV again.

Also, after all those years on TM, both Holly and Phil need a change, I’d say.

If not........Roland Rat it is!

Yeah, that's just not going to happen is it.

Although I have always felt Holly is probably destined for her own programme in the Lorraine slot in years to come when both have given up their existing roles.

Sense would say Eamonn Holmes as replacement. But Tom Bradby would/could work.

As for viewing figures. They'll take a knock but comparing radio listening v TV viewing figures is chalk and cheese. After all, radio will always be higher given the commute in cars will make it higher (even if your commute is only 15 mins - that will flash up as a listener to Radio 2 in my case)

I would have suggested Jeremy Kyle, but he's not a viable option.

Had he not have been 'benched' by ITV, for a tragic reason releated to mental health, then he would not be a bad shout.

However, replacing a presenter who left due to comments over mental health with one whose show's cancellation lead to the death of someone with mental health issues?

That would be way too troublesome to try and get off the ground. Unless, it was for one day only. Just to gauge reaction.

Someone posted a few pages back that 'the dust has now settled', well, that may be the case. But in this industry dust settles, then when you try and get them back on the screen again, the duststorm blows up very quickly, and it's down to how long ITV could hold their breath/nerve before admitting it was a mistake...
..unless they ride it out and the audience comes around to slowly accept Kyle back on the screen again.

For me, Richard Madeley would be the best option for GMB. At least he gives Susanna some space to talk compared to Piers, who totally trampled over her each day when she tried to speak on my occasions.

Richard has the experience, he is likeable in some ways, he has the edge to him, he comes from a more centre right political position, which can add something to GMB, he would be perfect replacement to Mr Morgan.

He also has had plenty of experience with daytime television, and has filled in for GMB hosts, so it would be a perfect fit.

ITV might just do what they did after Jeremy Kyle and stretch This Morning from 6am to 12:30 Wink

Quite a number of reports have referred to the fact that Piers doesn't need to work for the money. However I'm sure GB News will already have had discussions with him, as will have the Murdoch equivalent.

Aren't his bridges with Murdoch burnt already?

That's a very good point. He and Rupert Murdoch fell out when Piers left to go to the Mirror. According to Piers they haven't spoken since.

That said its a while ago and I don't know how much influence Rupe has on the day to day running of the company.

Of the two upcoming ventures I'd have thought News UK is the least likely to be a new home for Piers as it doesn't seem like it'll be a linear channel. Although if relations between him and the Murdoch camp have thawed I could see him being signed by Talk Radio
