Whilst I like this desk it's too long. Just a tad shorter would be perfect and free up space either side.

Only if they are determined to turn GMB into an ultimate snoozefest. Zipper

Got to admit I only watched 10 mins of today and fell asleep again, as bad (or as good) as Piers was he got you up and alert and ready to face the day Very Happy

Does anyone know what the ratings were today ?

I wouldn’t be surprised if they beat yesterday’s, given people would have wanted to see what they said about Piers.

Followed by 'ratings crisis' articles by the end of the week no doubt.

I think Piers should still make a one off comeback on Christmas Day.

I'm not sure things have got that rough that we're having to replace Santa Claus.

No lol, just presenting GMB not delivering presents (unless you're implying Santa is the new anchor alongside Susanna ).

Very Happy
It was entirely a tongue-in-cheek post based on suggesting somebody make a one-off appearance for the year on Christmas Day.

I mean if Piers were replacing Santa Claus then that'd probably be a sign that Christmas needs cancelled lol.

It would only be the peak at 0630 rather than sustained throughout the programme, I imagine many will tuned for the statement then switch to something else.

I think it’s unlikely they’d go for someone who’s known for just as newsreader like Dermot.* Someone with a bit more edge or known for more general entertainment presenting is more likely, like Holmes, Madeley or Ray.

*I know Dermot has done Eggheads, but even that was a very newsreader style of the delivery.

Dermot used to do BBC Breakfast with Natasha Kaplinsky who was much more known for entertainment than news back in The day.

That's not strictly true. Natasha graduated from regional news to Sky News before joining BBC Breakfast in 2002. She would have been considered more as a serious journalist than anything else at that time. It was her exposure on Breakfast - which was still pretty newsy at that point as they were still bedding in after the October 2000 relaunch - that led to her appearing as a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing in 2004. It was after this point that Natasha became much more widely known and more of a 'celebrity'. That said, she still retained a strong connection to news as she had spells presenting the Six O'Clock News and later Five News and ITV News. All in all, I'd say she's always been quite widely known as a news presenter for a long time but has also occasionally diversified into light entertainment.

In terms of Dermot, I agree that he wasn't really suited to breakfast television, much like Jeremy Bowen who preceded him. Bill Turnbull proved much more suitable in the slot and Breakfast really took off from there.

When you people talk about 'ITV News Execs' that's a complicated thing to discuss - do you mean Execs at ITN who work on the ITV News provision, senior production team members in the ITV plc Regional News operation, or those who manage the overall ITV News provision across both?

I was talking about those at ITN who manage the ITV News provision across everything. But isn’t ITV the major shareholder in ITN? Thanks for the overall explanation that it’s a brand. I thought ITN owned it.

Speaking of the desk, it’s obviously there just for social distancing. But does anyone have a camera blocking map or a photo showing the camera layout now. I know they’re doing a DVE to make the hosts side by side and shooting one host at an angle.

Surely it would be better off for him to play Scrooge, and the whole cast do a version of A Christmas Carol with Scrooge/Piers having changed his behaviour at the end? Very Happy

I think Life Stories was heading for the chop anyway as it was rating poorly for this latest run, the documentaries could remain on ITV but I wouldn't be surprised if Piers decides to bring those to other broadcasters.
