Investors clearly don't watch TV if they think Breakfast is in primetime.

Whilst Piers helped GMB make noise it’s taken 5 years for them to beat Breakfast and only by a very small number and only because he walked off the set. Ratings will be back to normal from here on in. I do think he put just as many people off than he won over. They could have made a success of GMB with someone else, the mistake they made right at the start of GMB was hiring Ben Shepherd as he was too associated to GMTV and I think that damaged the initial launch.

It’ll be interesting to see what ITV do next - take GMB forward building on the last few years but without trying to replicate Piers or go back to the GMTV safe zone.

I can see them playing it very safe for a year or two, and stick with a familiar, uncontroversial presenter such as Ben. Maybe in about a year or so, they'll start thinking about appointing a big name to boost ratings

The Daily Mail's Andrew Pierce just suggested to Sky News' Anna Botting on Press Preview that Piers Morgan should take over as the presenter of Sky News Breakfast Laughing Confused

Maybe that's another option for him?!

I can't imagine Piers wanting to do another Breakfast show, it's well known he hated the early starts on GMB.

Out of interest does ITV pay guests to come on. I ask given how Meghans father keeps coming on. Or does he just want to trash his daughter.

On at least one previous occasion he has been paid to appear: https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/6568173/meghan-markle-dad-thomas-paid-7500-good-morning-britain-interview/

I suspect it's no surprise it ended up like this, there was never going to be the all singing and dancing cake and crying end of his time of the show.

I think they might to with Ranvir, she can be quite a hard-hitting interviewer, and I suspect they will encourage her to go for it behind the scenes.

The problem was Piers Morgan was an "entertainer." Could someone like Ranvir get the headlines?

I suspect they will play it safe for a year (as some have said) then if ratings plummet they will get a Richard medley type character or a piers lite.

Richard Medley? He just goes on and on...

ITV don’t exactly have form for quickly permanently replacing people on GMB, IIRC Kate did quite long on Monday-Wednesdays until Piers joined.

Well it's about time he changed his tune.

I believe she was interim main presenter from September to November, so only 2 months or so.
