How can Meridian have a moving camera shot at the start of the programme? I thought it wasn't possible with these new automatic cameras?

Does the camera physically move (i.e. track or crab) - or just zoom and depress? If it does then it is likely there is a person behind it...

They have an 'eng-tech' in the studio acting as a floor manager during the recording of the opening titles and during the show to move & re-po the cameras (three of them) and it's him/her that that physically moves the camera, i.e. lifts it up on its 'ped' upon the directors cue.

You just know its going to probably be Helen James, who has covered for Charlotte's absences on occasions this year.

It is and good for Helen , she may be lacking in personality but she is an experienced performer and a serious option as a presenter unlike melons Humphries.

Oh don't knock Gemma she's always stayed clear of a cold front! Cool

I agree, Helen is a professional and I think its only her who can get the job.

Did you all see Fred Dineage on GMTV this morning

Apparantly he is a fan of the Little Chef, and was interviewed from a restaurant in Hampshire whilst tucking in to a £6.99 Olympic Breakfast

There are a few things in this set that I find sloppy.

Okay, maybe I'm being a bit too picky, but I don't like a wire trailing across the floor and going through what looks like a hole in the wall.

Is that a belt on the floor?

And why are there wire wrapped round one of the bars on the desk?

Do we ever think South Today will get a brand new set rather than make do with bodged mini-revamps every year or so?

Short answer to that is no.
Longer answer, not for a long long time. Dunno why, I just can't imagine it. They haven't got the guts.

I'd imagine when South Today get a major technical upgrade (which won't be for a few years), they'll probably overhaul the whole thing. Right now it is one bodge after another.

Surely South Today are due a technical upgrade immentently, afterall they still don't have 16:9 and over the past year both North West Tonight, and Look East cambridge, have been upgraded to 16:9, so surely we can expect to see something happen this year couldn't we?
