CNN International & Domestic

I guess, like BBC World News and the BBC News Channel, they need to merge to a single service rather than stay split, so they can concentrate resources on a single stream of decent quality, rather than spreading themselves too thin. And I guess domestic will always win... It's where the big bucks are presumably...

Well using awful fake brick is a change from the awful mahogany overload you often see.

So the current CNNI newsroom was build in 1994. It went through many revamps of course, the latest this year. Too bad they are not showing it anymore, especially now when it looks great.

One question though, in the first 10 minutes or so of the video, before the new set was introduced, there's a different, bigger looking newsroom in the background. Is this domestic newsroom?

Yes. At the time CNN International broadcast from one corner of the domestic newsroom. For a few months before the 1994 set and newsroom made their debut, they used a small, temporary set, which you can also see in this compilation.

I assumed so.

Too bad there are very few videos of CNNI in the first part of the last decade (2001-2006) when they had the best look overall, imo.

Fully agree! Thanks for those clips. Golly: Jeanne Meserve. Gene Randall. Hillary Bowker. And all those incredibly dated desks which, back in 1994, were very cutting edge.

Loved how they used to do really long closes in those days, a la montage.

The set design is very similar to CBS This Morning as others have noted. I'm sure the tone of the shows will be be too.
