The monitors are contained within the desk itself, under the glass top. I would imagine the glass is a special type of glass to reduce the flare from studio lights as well.


I think it's just regular Black Tinted Glass. There isn't really a need for there to special glass as from the PoV of a camera only the lighter side of the glass is seen through the glass.

Not sure if this is quite studio-related, but anyone can tell where are the monitor displays for the news presenters nowadays? They do obviously have keyboards and mice on the desk, but doesn't appear to us to have a monitor to see the display from their computer. But they do stare down a lot. So my guess, (a) it's somewhere under the opaque shiny table, (b) it's tucked in somewhere together with the keyboard, like a 2 in 1 thing.

It appears that the contents of TVC are now on the market, up for auction.

Kitchen and catering items go first but "BBC memorabilia" from the building will go on sale on 11 July.

Thought about this during the budget and spending review, how many studios does the BBC have in Millbank? Is it always the same studio on screen for DP, This Week and the specials? Is it a large operation or just a studio near Westminster? People have said that it's the backup for NBH, do they have a newsroom there?

They do have that mothballed set as well in the newsroom, but it's not been used for a number of years. If I remember correctly it was notably used when TVC was evacuated back in the early 2000s?

No, they don't update the back up set and from what I heard that set no longer exists.

No, they don't update the back up set and from what I heard that set no longer exists.

The newsroom set is no longer there - it's just more newsroom now!

If the news operation had to decamp to Millbank, they'd just use the main studio, MB1. I saw a rehearsal before the BH move, and they just put the regular fake newsroom backdrop on the screens - it'd probably be fairly indistinguishable to the average viewer, although they were using the coffee table desk, which looked a little odd.

No doubt they could wheel in a higher desk if the need arose.

MB1 still seems like a fairly robust emergency base for BBC News, should the need ever arise. As with the IRA bombing of TVC, the public would be more interested in the news, rather than the set matching their regular view.
