Another debate show on Channel 5 this evening. Matthew Wright has been replaced by Anne Diamond and Nick Ferrari. This one is on for two hours and guests include Katie Hopkins, Kelvin Mackenzie and Vanessa Feltz so it should be quite good.

Apparently it did very well last time, they do have some competition this time in the form of Channel 4's Benefit's Britain: The Live Debate at 21:00 which is presented by Daybreak's Richard Bacon which Channel 4 actually rescheduled after the success of the Channel 4 show.

So far it's not as entertaining as the last debate, sorry, row. In fact there's probably been more sound issues and cameramen/presenters walking into shot. Also Anne is choosing to stress some quite bizarre parts of her sentences.

These programmes are quite odd. They feel like an angrier and dumbed down version of something you'd find on C4 in the late 80s/early 90s but with the odd hashtag thrown in.

I expect Katie Hopkins or a well known swearer will be brought out in a moment, just to stop people turning to Channel 4 at 21:00.

EDIT: I was right, she is on after the break.

Anne Diamond demanding of Katie Hopkins: "Why aren't you racist?"

It's picking up a bit now.

It's discusting how Katie Hopkins is seemingly making a career out of being a professional bully.

Good luck to her. She isn't doing anyone any harm.

I wonder why Matthew Wright wasn't hosting this debate aswell? As soon as I heard that Anne Diamond was hosting this one on NewsTalk Live, I could just see what was going to happen a mile off. As good of a newsreader she may be, she just isn't authoritative enough for a programme like this. She just spent the two hours shouting in a high pitched voice trying to be heard over the crowd. To be honest, Nick Ferrari wasn't half bad, but it's a shame that they aren't treating these 'rows' seriously. If they wanted to produce a credible debate, I'd imagine 5's political editor, Andy Bell being a good host, with a better title - The Benefits Debate: Live, The Immigration Debate: Live, or something like that - not the tabloid-esque Big British Immigration Row. These programmes are making for entertaining TV, but are not actual chaired debates, just televised uneducated arguments over political issues. With ITN producing them, I thought we might have seen better.

One of the more clever revivals from Channel 5.
