I wasn't talking about selling the EPG position, at least not in the short term. I was talking about selling the airtime. As long as they found someone willing to pay more than it costs to employee someone to press play on a tape then they would be making a profit from it. I would have thought the already produced Accurate Teleshopping stuff would be perfect. The content is presumably already at Bid in a format that they can play out quite easily with equipment that is likely to be sitting there currently doing nothing, it has been shown on the channel before so there shouldn't be any regulatory issues either.

Some interesting images from what look like bid-up's launch day:

Many of the users of the ShoppingTelly.com forum are incredibly rude. They tend to find pleasure in insulting and disparaging presenters about their looks.

Their spy would have copied and pasted that over there by now!

This seems to be a very strong rivalry between two popular television forums. #TeamTVForum

Great find. Looking at those pictures makes you appreciate how long Bid[[-up].tv] had been going for. There is a whole lot of early 21st century fashion on display there. CRT (and 4:3) monitors date it too. The biggest give away that this is a real piece of history is the very young and trendy looking Andy Hodgson. Apart from him, the only other person I recognise is Paul Ross.

I'm surprised no clips of that set have appeared on youtube yet. One of the better selly telly fan sites a few years back had a load of screen grabs of bid-up using that set. I don't think that site is around any more.

Slightly off topic but I believe someone mentioned The Money Channel/Avago earlier and I just saw these photos by the same person who took the Bid-up ones... https://www.flickr.com/photos/92762866@N00/sets/72157625857755891/

I think I can see Jem Patel or Bollywood Bond as he would be later known on Avago in one of the pictures and Windows NT 4 also appears.

I think there's also LJ Rich, now with Click who I think was an assistant?

Since Bid and Price Drop are still broadcasting and appearing on the EPG, I can only assume they have paid for their bandwidth and other associated costs in advance. As it is KMPG's job to maximise the value of the Bid Shopping assets, it surprises me that they have't used the airtime for something. Why aren't they selling the already paid for airtime to Accurate Teleshopping or JML or someone?

According to Sky policy:
Sky EPG fees are, it would appear, paid for monthly in advance. These appear not to be refunded if you transfer an EPG place to somebody else partway through the month.
28 days notice is ideally needed to Sky to reuse an EPG vacated by another broadcaster.

Under that arrangement, it's probably not worth selling it to somebody else, as by the time notice has been given and granted, you're only going to get two or three days out of it anyway.

I dare say, depending on when the invoice was last paid to Sky, channels 645 and 654 will be gone by the middle of May, or possibly towards the back end of the month.

Dave meant why don't they just set up an ad-hoc arrangement to show infomercials, like they did with Bid Plus for its' final weeks of existence.

Here are some smashing clips. Genuine Bid TV customers speak...

From what looks like a long forgotten official Bid TV channel too.

It was quite a different channel back then

But if the EPG placing will disappear in a few weeks it's not really worth it, hardly anyone will notice a something popping up for a couple of weeks unpublicised

The company has ceased trading though. The administrators job is to wind up and sell assets to make money for its creditors. They wouldn't be interested in running an arrangement like that, name of course doing so would presumably mean that the company is trading again

Isn't there also some sort of clause/rule that they can remove EPG places when a channel stops broadcasting or stops running according to the EPG schedule?

It appears they haven't realised yet...
