Another option not explored if things were that bad was decamping to C for the back half hour, BBC World had moved to Newsnight by then so the studio was free.
Wonder if Nicholas Owen felt unwell. (I hope not)

A decamp to A would probably have been more likely given the network bulletin that followed.

Are you suggesting that Maxine Mawhinney could be lying about the technical problem?

Surely if Nicholas did have to go off air due to being unwell, maxine would have been able to take over at some point before the top of the next hour?

I'll admit it's highly unlikely. Techy gremlins is what I believe. I'm sure that had some major breaking news come in between 12 and 1 they would have thrown live to C.

Via Maxine on Twitter, it was definitely the technical gremlins.

There was a mix up last Thursday at 1855. At the end of Wimbledon Sportsday they played a montage using Clavin Harris song Summer, then went to the weather was obviously an old one as it was saying 'this afternoon will be mainly fine' and showing the graphics for the weather 1300, then that was cut off mid sentence and then we had 35 second countdown.

Some of the weather forecasts on the News Channel are recorded (generally any that don't involve a handover to the balcony) to allow for the weather presenters having their break!

I wonder if the problems playing in VTs were what led to the repeated hour yesterday? A couple of issues during the last half hour and World had some video go missing earlier according to other thread, and apparently one of the network bulletins on Thursday had the first few packages played in from edit suites because the Jupiter video server system had fallen over.

Weather failed to play out after Newsday just now. Closing title ran and remained stuck on the last frame in silence for what felt like an eternity. Briefly replaced by another static image of the right-aligned globe and rather large looking BBC NEWS logo text. The filler was, eventually, played to fill the remainder of the time.
