Please say it's not just me who finds the school report thing extremely tedious. Surely it would be better suited on CBBC! I want to find out about the doom and gloom in the world not GCSE Media Coursework!

It's a good initiative but doesn't belong on the national news bulletins. The package I saw on the 1 today was very cringy.

A pupil in school uniform also presented part of the weather forecast on the NC at 1425.

Always found it out of place on the main news channel and bulletins and it seems especially stupid to schedule it the day after the Budget.

This year it really has to be this week due to the Political and Education calendar and Easter. Holding it In the Summer Term isn't on due to external exams, any earlier in the Winter term wouldn't fit the curriculum and preparation. The other window the second half of the Michaelmas term is also far too occupied with seasonal events. I've got no issue with the concept as it engages students in the business and it attracts a number of professionals into the classroom, downgrading the outlet would reduce this involvement. It's only a single day and to me most worthwhile.

There are a few pieces from School report about how broadcasting the news works from a technical aspect, with a quite nice bit from Chris Cook (who I believe is also a member on here) explaining the automation. Click

Part of me is impressed that technology has allowed things to become so simple that that demo is possible and more and more commonplace. But I'm also sad that we've replaced what were once highly skilled and technical jobs, sound engineers, vision mixers, camera operators are now done with computers. I suppose much like manufacturing, where once some blokes in Birmingham made cars, now robots in Japan do it.

Some blokes in Birmingham once made (Aston) character generators by hand, now they're made in Norway in software!

Are you sure ? Aston's factory was in Camberley, Surrey, I don't know whether there was any
early connection with Brum, perhaps the company founder(s) attended Aston Uni ?

Well what a disappointing branding I think...

I believe the program begins on BBC World on the 30th March.
