The only problem is that you may miss the news cycle by going in the evening. The agenda is set by the likes of Marr and Sky's show being in the morning, and from then the media is generally reacting to that. A lot of newspapers set their agenda in the afternoon and it would take a hefty story to change that direction. To gain as much publicity for any new show it would need some agenda-setting interviews.
This doesn't really matter if you consider ITV's role to just be getting a shedload of viewers, and boosting their flagship news shows as fast as possible. However, opinion formers will judge the channel on how the likes of Peston's show are doing.
Having said all that, it's hard to see where there's a gap for another show which wouldn't hit ratings and/or clash with a BBC show that would inevitably win.
