Does anyone prefer the ITV1 look now?

I think that although ITV1 is a stronger brand than it once was, you could hardly fail to notice it was part of the ITV network before.

I do agree that there should maybe be one main presence for the channel but at the same time they could have kept the old logos and instead of the dodgy "ITV1 for central england" or "ITV1 Wales" they could of had the ITV1 logo with the regional logo underneath. I know here in the midlands most people refer to ITV1 as Central because it was such a strong brand and they could have done well to mix them so that the regional brands still exist but theres also a unified presence.

Exactly, im not saying I completly hated regional brands, I really like the dual branding of 99 - 02, but its not for this age. And Flava is right, most people dont care, they care about programmes and nothing else, and how many people actually watch regional programmes, they are dull and unprofessional, and stupid. At least ITV can now start improving if they can be bothered with extra money they now have.

When in East Anglia and when I watched ITV1 there it looked very professional - and very yellow - I wish they woulds intorduce the corporate look up here....

That is your opinion i don't understand your logic either who says the celebrity idents are working apart from you that is.Just because you seem to like the current look and it works for you the rest of us are just expected to go along with that and not allowed an opinion ?.In Scotland the celebrity idents don't work and most of them are out of date anyway .

Most people know where to look for Corrie and other big ITV programmes including the regional news they don't have to be force fed with a bunch of outdated lovie idents to know what channel they are watching .I think the majority of people would prefer their local regional ITV station along with the regional idents instead of an unprofessional half put together corporate nightmare !!!!!.The consolidated ITV may be working in England and Wales but it isn't in Scotland or NI you only have to watch the ecp's to find that out it's a mess coming up next it's etc etc then later it's etc then the STV announcer cuts in and says but that's not here as it's blah blah next and that's when they have time to even say it sometimes they don't .The average person in the street is not going to say oh i'm watching blah on ITV 1.In Scotland they tend to refer to STV or Grampian as i'm sure in NI they would say UTV and that is never going to change no matter how many celebs are running about on those dreadful idents so i'm not sure that your branding theory is working the ITV brand in Scotland will never be stronger than Scottish /Grampian TV and that's the bottom line i'm afraid. Scottish TV changed the on air name from STV twenty yrs ago and jo public and STV staff still refer to the station as STV .

Well, the brand isn't working in Scotland because they've opted out, hence the muddle you have.

I don't think DAS is actually saying that he likes the on screen look in particular, ie. the celeb idents etc, but that the station as a whole now has an identifiable brand (outside of Scotland).

People recognise the blue and the yellow, the 4 square device and to some extent the celebs.

I hope that we're in for another September / October refresh and that the celeb idents are either done radically different or abandoned altogether. In my opinion the best ITV1 ident was Christmas this last year, I loved that.

And the reason for opting out in the first place in Scotland is that SMG feel ITV is not a stronger brand in Scotland than Scottish /Grampian brands.It's the only time i'll ever agree with SMG on anything believe me .

Nope, the reason for opting out is to force ITV PLC to buy them out.

That's most likely the real reason but SMG have said that ITV is not a strong brand in Scotland and lets be honest here that is true .

That demonstrates your inability to read and understand what I've written.

As Square Eyes correctly points out, I have said that I am not a fan of the celebrity idents, and I was a fan of the old style of local presentation.

But I also have the ability to get rid of those rosy visions of how it used to be, and realise that ITV1's brand is as strong as it has ever been. Casting regional presentation out to sea has allowed ITV1 to develop an extremely strong image for the channel - something that was essential to survive. And now that image has been established, they can build on that image and become a very powerful force on-screen. This simply would have been impossible pre-2002.

That is not my opinion, that is a fact. If you re-read what I've written, I've explained in moderate detail why the national look is beneficial over regional presentation. And I haven't once mentioned Scottish Television, so why you've come up with that in response to my whole argument, I have no idea.

I like idents to remember/dramatic i.e Carlton Star, the LWT Video Wall 2002, TTTV regional ident (hearts); not some cheesy celebs!

And its really annoying!

But now it isn't about remembering specific idents, it's about remembering and recognising the concept.

To the avergage Joe, ITV1 is celebrities = the entertainment channel. And that's what ITV1 wants to be.

I think the current look since 2003 is a mess, this is really tacky, and the logo doesnt even match that really horrible generic ident, and the break bumper, it really is tacky. I much preffered the 2002 first look of ITV1. I downloaded some ITV1 Wales Idents the other day, the current 2003 ones, and have to say the celebs idents does look really bad, but the sets of the first look, was much better. They had a more warmer feel to them and neater. I wanna see that ITV Nightime Ident back used p to 2002, simple but effective!
