Out of curiosity, where did the late edition of NWT come from? Was it the breakfast/DTL set or the main studio with the sofa?

I'm pleasantly surprised that they've broke ranks and decided to be different to the other English regions. I was really annoyed when their impressive 2007 titles were prematurely cut down in under a year just so because the BBC wanted the regions to be entirely uniform.
I wonder if this will spur on other regions to go their own way? I think it was Points West that ditched the first generic look, last decade (BBC London was allowed to be different back then). I also wonder how long the dons in London will tolerate it before reimposing a uniform set of titles for England once again.
These titles are an improvement on the last ones. The music is nice, especially in the outro. The headline bed is a bit wrong though. That high-pitched string note is just not necessary over the standard BBC 'bum, bum-bum...'. Don't mind the set. It's smart enough, in my opinion.

BBC News graphics are pushing the text-safe boundary towards the 14:9 markers now, rather than keeping the text 4:3 safe. The clock is 4:3 safe, the work TRAVEL and the left hand edge of the inset still image is at the 14:9 safe marker. As NW is an entirely digital region, it does make sense to assume the majority of viewers have widescreen sets. Those that persist with 4:3 sets and are watching cutout - sorry, but you should be watching letterbox or get a new set...

Pleasantly surprised with the look of the show from the screengrabs presented here, though I do think the ceiling is very low and cramps the look of the programme a bit. The set works well and I think they've made good use of the space. The new titles are nice, but for me they don't quite fit with the look of the rest of BBC News - it's more a stripped down version of the branding with some decent North West imagery thrown in... I'll keep watching for more - it certainly looks a promising start. Well done to everyone involved in the move, it's not an easy thing to pull off, especially as they're the first (I believe) to use a very new automation system that W1 will be very much reliant on.

Having been very much used to Roger on South Today (on his own and IMO very good) it does very much appear as if the pair don't work together, separately I'm sure both would manage perferctly well, I'm not sure the double heading works with them though...

I completely agree. The double-headed idea was good in 2007 in order to ease Ranvir in before Gordon's inevitable retirment but now I don't think it's necessary and somewhat awkward.

The music, titles and set make it unmistakably a BBC News programme. I don't see this huge necessity where all the different regional news programmes have to be idential looking. It's not like North West Tonight looks a world a way from Look North or Points West etc, like it would've done in the 90s, though it wasn't an issue then, for some reason.

I do like both the set and the new titles (and yes, the music sounds good too).
I have this vague memory of one of the earlier generic title sets having different options on the pictures (one of the sets had a man being walked by his dogs under a high railway bridge (somewhere like Runcorn, I think).
It would be quite nice if this lot had some varieties (the shot of the Beetham Tower, for instance, is great, but some other Manchester landmarks might be nice, likewise for other places in the region).
